"The I.O. Hellcat .380 is what I would call an \"adequate\" gun. First impressions are it appears to be a well designed and built gun, but shooting it shines a light on it's shortcomings. First thing I noticed it that it does not have a manual slide lock, so there is no way to keep the action open (the range where I shoot likes to have all actions open when the gun is not in use). The magazines do not slide out freely when released and needed to be pulled out when empty. After properly cleaning and lubricating it, I took the gun to the range. Shooting this gun side by side with the Ruger .380 LCP, I first noticed that the Hellcat's grip had much sharper edges than the Ruger and was not nearly as comfortable to shoot (not that .380's are all that comfortable to begin with). The gun was quite accurate, but jammed frequently (6 to 8 times out of 100 rounds), but less so the more I shot. The take down pin intitally kept working itself out and had to be pushed in for about the first 40 rounds or so (I have read this complaint from other owners as well). Overall, the Hellcat is OK, but if I had to do it again, I would opt for the more expensive Ruger since, as a concealed carry weapon, I would want an extremely reliable gun for personal protection."

"Got as a nice easy cary gun. It takes a few rounds to warm up an break in. Make sure to clean and oil it before your first time out. Very light weight easy to hold. Doesn't have too much kick. Better ammo definately makes a difference. Would recommend magtech or hornady ammo. Magtech works better in the gun then brass for target. like the little gun. would recommend."

"Well I take back what I said. It started jamming and won't stop even with great ammo. The casing seems to get stuck on something when ejecting. Does't have issues if there is only on bullet but if you use the magazine it will literally fail to eject each time. Super lame. Sending it to the manufacture but they charge me shipping both ways. I suppose you get what you pay for. Would recommend getting a different gun if you looking around. Not very reliable which was what I wanted."

"Cheaper Than Dirt shipped this item very quickly... However, when this firearm was picked up from my FFL dealer and brought home, I immediately noticed that the magazine rattled within the handle and the slide shook around as well. This was not the fault of Cheaper Than Dirt but rather falls upon I.O. Inc (the manufacturer). After properly cleaning and oiling it, I took the Hellcat .380 out for a test fire to break it in... Instead, of being broken in, the gun was simply broken. The first four rounds fired fine, but on the fifth the small recoil spring popped straight through the recoil bar guide hole in the front of slide. It was field stripped, re-cleaned, re-oiled and the spring was put back in place. Seven shots later, the problem occurred once again. It was repaired a second time and several more rounds were put through the weapon. On the third magazine, the gun began to jam (not due to cheap ammo, as the recommended brands were being used)and every single round started to get lodged in the barrel (thus preventing ejection and a proper feed). It was brought home and I.O. customer service was contacted. After several tries I got through and was referred to the web site to fill out a form. There were no further instructions as to how to actually return the gun and customer service was called again. I was instructed how to return the weapon and that it would be repaired and then shipped back. Shipping to the manufacturer and back again were to be done at my own expense and cost me nearly $100. The gun has yet to arrive back. For those of you looking to purchase this item, I would strongly suggest re-thinking your options and to go with a manufacturer with a solid reputation for both quality and warranty. The I.O. Hellcat .380 is a very poorly made firearm and shouldn't be trusted to save your life in the case of an emergency."

"Saw this item on sale and since I was looking for a pocket pistol I couldn't pass it up. Reviews on line were mainly positive so I felt I couldn't go wrong. Was I ever mistaken! The gun has never fired more than seven rounds without a jam or failure to extract. I have tried 5 different brands of ammo, all with the same result: it fires the first magazine full (6) wihout a hitch. then after reloading the same mag it will jam on the second shot and fail to extract on the rest. I contacted the manufacturer and the were happy to have me send it in for repair provided that I pay shipping both ways. Here's the rub: shipping will cost me 60 to 80 dollars since it is a handgun. I don't think that investing any more money in the gun is worth it since I spent almost $50 in ammo to try to get it to operate. I won't send it for repair. At least it will shoot six shots but as you can guess, I won't be using it as a carry gun since I can't rely on it. Learn from my experience - by a name brand from CTD!"

"Update to previous review: Called I.O.Inc again and explained the problem. They said, again, to send it to them at my cost. Period - nothing more - no alternative. I sent a detailed e-mail to the service manager, explaining my circumstances and the fact that the gun has a factory defect. No response from them. I guess you can afford to give a lifetime warranty when it costs more than 1/2 the price of the gun to get the service!"
