Hornady has been an industry leader in high performance ammunition for decades. When the demand came for a better self defense round, Hornady answered the call with their Critical Defense line. All Critical Defense ammunition is loaded with the FTX bullet that features a hollow point with a polymer tip to maximize ballistic performance and reliable expansion. The FTX's unique designs allow it to feed reliably in pistols. Critical Defense brass cases have been nickel plated to prevent corrosion and make it significantly easier to see in low light environments. Hornady offers Critical Defense ammunition in most pistol calibers. Join the ranks of people who trust Hornady to defend themselves.

"Dropped a coyote in his tracks with one shot at 50 feet. I was using the 45acp 185 grain critical defense round."

"The expansion of the critical defense is outright amazing. The small rubber tip swells like a balloon on impact to begin expansion of the lead, which follows outward in a flower shape. This bullet has the ability to transfer all of its energy very quickly while still maintaining sufficient penetration. The difference between critical defense and any standard hollow point is night and day."
