"A solid piece of equipment. Don't expect to be pulling off any high speed SF operations with it, but it will get the job done. I've used it to get up into a couple of gnarly trees and used it to assist in landing on small, cliff edged islands in my kayak. Sturdy, solid, and does fold down nicely."

"Solid tool, good construction. If being used for climbing, I suggest tying a double figure 8 backed up by a fisherman's knot, as it's much sturdier than the single fisherman's it came with."

"The fact that it's collapsible makes it easy to store and carry on you without seeming bulky. Works great when in locked position, rope is of good quality as well. Well worth my money."

"Decently weighted so it won't blow around in the wind or anything. Thick metal for a decent grapple when needed. Rope is of what I consider good quality. Points are not sharp but probably could be grinded down if necessary. Tested it in the tree in my yard and worked great, it held my entire weight without deforming. Rope held up well under pressure (I forgot how hard climbing straight up was). It is collapsible for easy storage and will probably work well for most of your grappling needs."

"This item is one of my newest additions to my S.H.T.F equipment. I'm no lightweight, and this probably WOULD NOT be wise to use all the time to climb with. I carefully examined the build of this hook, and only see the threaded part of the main shaft as a possible weak point. I could see myself 12 feet up in a tree and look up as the threads strip off, plunging to my severe injury/death. So I gave 4 bullets as that threaded part is a concern in my book. $20.00 for a pre-made collapsible grappling hook that fits in the rucksack is well worth it! I am buying 3 more for my friends."

"Okay, so I bought this to help bring down a large branch on a tree in my front yard. The branch was hanging by a thread. I have three small kids and didn't want it giving way with them playing below. After several swings, I got it stuck firm. I pulled and got the branch swinging. It didn't break. I got out my truck and tied it to the back. I had my wife pull forward until it broke the branch off. When it fell, I saw that over a 7 inch radius of branch had been left holding it up. This hook was strong enough to bring the limb down without flinching. I'd say it could hold just about anyone in shape enough to climb it. It's a great deal!"

"I bought it as a novelty gift so it works great for what i needed it for. While messing around and testing it a bit i have to say I wouldn\uFFFDt even trust my mother-in-laws life with it."

"I finally bought this after much debating and I gotta say I am not regretting the decision. Me and a buddy decided to test it out and it worked like a charm. I would defeneitly trust this in a serious sitiuation."

"Excellent for clearing trails in the summer for snowmobile accessto lake and trails. Also use it a lot for dropping trees and limbs. Own 2 in case one gets stuck or lost."

"Just got this in today, opened it and went outside with my roommate to mess around with it, threw it twice, on the 2nd time it landed on the sidewalk from about 15 feet, and one of the metal prongs bent in. It doesn't fold up anymore or unscrew properly, cool item for the price, but not sturdy enough to land on itself. I would trust my weight on the rope but not the hooks. (185 lbs) very fast shipment though!"

"I previously submitted a review about the weak metal prongs, unfortunately the prongs haven't changed but I feel another review is necessary seeing as Cheaper Than Dirt agreed to send me another brand new item free of charge after I emailed. Very very very satisfied with this website."

"Hook is of good quality, but it's harder than you think to climb straight up. Could be used for many different things!"

"The first time I used it, was to try and pull a broken limb out of a tree. The limb had broken off and was hanging loose on another limb. As soon as I started pulling on the rope, the hooks snapped off. One landed about 30' from the tree, I was unable to find the other one. I suppose that one will be lawn mower shrapnel some day. The hook is a cheap piece of junk."

"This is the coolest thing. We tied a tire to it and it is very sturdy. I love it. This is a great steal."

"Would work in a pinch better than a free fall and rope is sturdy would trust my weight to it. Must have in Mac gyver tool bag lol"

"So far I am impressed. I am going to add a small 1' foot 300lb strength chain with a plastic covering, between the rope and hook. Where most of the abrasion will occur during use. From flat storage, the hook portion easily spins into place in seconds for a sturdy quad hook placement."

"The grappling hook and rope combination is an acceptable tool as long as it is used within its limitations and IS NOT used for purposes beyond its design and manufactured purposes. I cannot believe any sane person would even consider using this for climbing or ingress/egress! A clue should be the cheesy 'Ninja' advertising on the box! This grappling hook/rope combination is well suited for the purpose of breeching certain obstacles or the retrieval of inanimate objects from difficult locations."

"I purchased a couple of these as gag gifts for buddies of mine. After \"assembly,\" we came to believe this might actually support the weight of a human being (I'm not volunteering for the test run). Being armed with this grappling hook might not enable you to engage in covert operations or ninja activity, and perhaps can't even offer a hasty escape during a zombie attack, but I give it four bullets for its uses as an odd weapon, conversation piece, retrieval tool, or industrial strength paper weight! The projected 3-5 day shipping only took a day. CTD is amazing."

"I was looking for a grappling hook of any sort in local stores, including outdoor stores that sell high end climbing gear. No one was able to come close to having what I wanted. When I came to CTD and saw this here, I read the reviews. With some anxiety I purchased 2 of them. My order shipped and was on my doorstep before I knew what was happening. After opening everything up, I took my kids to a local park to play in some trees. I am a 6' nearly 300lb guy, and these things held me just fine, so much so that I ended up making an impromptu rope swing with them. No bending, no signs of any thing wrong whatsoever. I have since used them many times, and they hold my weight while I am bouncing on them testing what other reviewers said about them bending and deforming. Nothing. I have used them in some pretty extreme climbing situations, and plenty of times as swings using the hooks alone to hold myself up. These things are excellent!"

"I ordered this hook maybe a year ago. Today was the first time using it for more than a conversation starter. My goal was to pull a small beaver dam out of the creek before it got very well established. On the second tug, one of the hooks bent straight up. So pulling at some brush, by hand, bent it. Not impressed."

"It is very cheaply made. the prongs are pressed together with a spring and allows for movement."
