"I've backpacked a lot, and this has got to be the NICEST mess kit ever! Better than the old G.I. one, and certainly better than the old Boy Scout one I used to have.Kit consists of a large pot/skillet with handle, a smaller pot with handle, and a top that can double as a plate. Mine came with a small ding in it (thankfully, no holes), and some marks that came off with steel wool and good old fashioned elbow grease. Small and made of aluminum, the kit is small and light enough for backpacking, camping, or the bug out bag.The small pot holds enough liquid to heat water for Mountain House foods and have enough for a hot cup of tea (I LOVE my tea!). You can even boil water to heat an MRE pouch (especially when their \"heaters\" frequently \"crap out\" on you!).The bowl/plate is great if you want something better to eat from, instead of eating from a Mountain House/MRE pouch. Better watch it, though, as aluminum DOES conduct heat - I suggest placing the bowl/plate on a log, your backpack, or your tailgate.I am getting a second to put in my pickup for those times when there's a HUGE traffic jam AND I just happen to be hungry. This is a great buy, and not to be passed up."

"Fast shipping, thanks CTD. Mine was a 1956 model. Only very slight corrosion. A little 0000 steel wool and it'll be good as new."

"Hands down the best mess kit I've ever seen. I was in the Army and Boy Scouts- this kit leaves those in the dust. I ordered 2 of them, one came with a fork and spoon the other did not. The kit is made from thick heavy duty steel, and seem very durable."

"The only issue I've got is that the original French issue pouch is not included, but I still gave it five bullets because the rectangular shape packs well. These fold up nice and compact: 7\"x5\"x2.25\" AND the entire smaller pan's volume is empty and could hold some additional storage. Mine were aluminum (a previous Review mentioned his were stainless steel?) and stout, thicker than the round GI style, and in great shape. The fold-out handles look like they'll survive regular use for some time. Both pans can hold a can of chili.Large pan 7\" by 5\" by 2\"Smaller pan 6\" by 4.5\" by 2\"Tray is 6.5\" by 5\" by 1.5\""
