"While you can use wood alcohol in this, it burns very dirty. I've heard denatured alcohol works great. It will boil water in a few minutes, it is very efficient. Just be sure to wait until the burner has cooled before you put on the cap- it has a rubber gasket that will melt (Learned the hard way)Nice cheap reliable mess kit."

"A little heavy for backpacking perhaps, but a great stove. Boiled a whole can of soup (Chunky, it's a large can) in 5 minutes. Brought 3 cups water to a boil in 7 minutes. Methyl alchol is what I use, in the paint thinner section. Works great. I'm very glad I found this stove."

"This is a complete stove and mess kit for under $8! It is a little on the heavy side for backpacking... but i do use it for that. There are pro's and cons to alcohol stoves, but this is a bombproof set that will last forever with a little care. Denatured alcohol is sold at big box home stores for about $10 per gallon. (ethyl alcohol with a little methanol added.) It is the best fuel to use. Next up is Methanol sold as gas line de-icer (Heet in the YELLOW bottle.) DO NOT use iso-propyl alcohol (Rubbing alcohol or HEET in the red bottle) as it will yield a sooty yellow flame.Get one and get out there!"

"If you want a small, compact, and complete mess kit; this is the perfect item. I was amazed at the quality, and ingenuity of the kit. It's all self contained, stove and all and ready to go. All you need is some fuel to put in the fuel bottle, which is readily available anywhere. If you need a mess kit, buy this one. You will be more than happy with this product. I've been camping for over 30 years now, and would be hard pressed to identify a better camping bargain."

"Another great Norwegian Army Design. Arrived in NEW condition, heavy aluminum, does not discolor after a few uses. Stove will burn half-full (about 2 ounces of HEET) for about 25 minutes, enough to cook pasta for two. Rolling boil in about 10 minutes. Been experimenting with homemade and store bought alcohol stoves for a couple of years and this is by far the best design I've seen. Arrives as shown, deep pot and cover, windscreen has two legs inside that fold up for pot support and burner works great. All components nestle inside the windscreen for travel. Little heavy though for backpacking but great for tailgating. CTD, keep the Norwegian Army surplus coming! Must buy!"

"I do have to agree with the others that this complete kit is on the heavy side. If you are looking to shave some weight, make up your own wind screen and just get this kit for the stove. The stove alone is work the price. I like how well everything fits together, and there is still a lot of room left over for the rest of my own cooking gear. This little stove is built like a tank. The windscreen and pots are very heavy duty and should last me a very long time. I have managed to turn the whole kit into a very compact survival kit."

"Simple, sturdy, gets the job done and reasonably priced. I agree with other reviewers, the stove alone is worth the price of the kit."

"As stated by others, this is a great kit and the stove alone is worth the price. One thing that is also really neat is that the little plastic bottle is designed for holding fuel for the stove. It's held up to the denatured alcohol very well."

"Combine the included burner and fuel bottle with an aluminum sterno stove, and you've got a bombproof featherweight packstove (1lb 9 0z. including fuel) at a spectacurlarly low cost. Use denatured alcohol for best results."

"This little stove gets the job done with little hassle. It wont cook a meal for 4 but for one person this is great."

"I bought this little mess kit several months ago and have been VERY pleased with its ease of use. If you plan to do any backpacking it may be a little heavy but is totally worth it. It is very heavy duty, compact, easy to care for, and overall a wonderful little rig. The fuel cell & bottle fit inside the pot with a little room left for emergency sewing kits or other small survival kits. The price makes this a mess kit that you DO NOT want to pass up. A must have."

"Had been doing research on alcohol stoves when I came on this one last year. You will not be disapointed! Super affordable, bulletproof build quality, and mine was 'as-new' shape (dated early seventies). The steel stand keeps the wind out, and heat in. Took it on last years treck to the Trinity Alps. First up was Mac and Cheese, then Ramen, Hot dogs, spaghetti... the list goes on. It's not a lightweight titanium super stove, but in all the money I saved on the stove, I could afford a lot more food! Also it did a survival bit for me during the new years, power was out for over 2 days and if there is no hot coffee - things get ugly. Sure enough this brass wonder pulled the household through dark times!Have only used Heet brand fuel, it sure burns clean, just over a buck at Wal Mart."

"I've bought about three of these so far. I gave one to my dad for his birthday and keep one in the basement emergency supplies and one in my car's emergency kit. I too recommend denatured alcohol for it. I buy it from any hardware store (Lowe's, Walmart's paint section, etc.). I took it with me on an outing for the National Guard and while everyone else was eating MRE's for breakfast, I had a tasty bow of oat meal, coffee and instant soup in the evening when the temperature dropped. It produces NO SMOKE, very little light (important in enemy territory) and lets off no harmful fumes so it can be used indoors if necessary. Keep'em coming in CTD and I'll keep buying'em!"

"I was very impressed with the design and overall value of this product. It came as described. I purchased 3, two for gifts, one for myself. Of the 3, 1 was nearly new, 1 was slightly used, and 1 looked heavily used. I would have given it 5 stars but the wear and tear on the one was a little disappointing. One notable difference from the product photo is that the inside cooking pans/pots are painted olive drab on the outside. The photo shows they are shiny aluminum. I have not yet cooked with the set, but I suspect the paint will burn when I use the set. Shouldn't matter much, but it was not shiny like the picture. (Of course, the green makes more sense for the military.) It is hard to see in the photo, but you actually have two cooking pots. One is the larger pot, and its lid can actually work as a smaller pot or small frying pan. And the smaller pan (lid) has a latch to hold the whole set together, which can double as a handle. This handle has two d-rings attached which would allow you to insert a stick for a longer reach (like for over a hot camp fire). Pretty cool set up overall. Everything is stored inside the black wind screen, which has two fold up wires inside to hold the pots high enough to use the burner. It is a little heavy for backpacking, but great for other uses. Great value! The burner alone was worth the price."

"Everything in the set was in great condidion except the stove. It was in desparate need of polishing and upon polishing it up I found that not only the stove lid but the stove itself contained cracks in them. It still works even with the cracks but I am looking into getting it replaced."

"This is the third one I have. Bought the first two off of ebay, but now they are selling them for $30 or more. These are great little stoves for camping, hiking, and survival situations. I have one in my bug out bag, and so does my wife and daughter. This stove here was in rougher shape than the first two but cleaned up nice and works great. I use denatured alcohol in mine it works great."

"Stove is built really well, buy a few to keep in the cabin or your truck. Works nicely with sterno cans, two will fit inside of it."

"I previously wrote a review for this little kit on 1/16/08. Since then I've used it a couple of times with great results. As of right now I'm in the middle of hurricane Gustav in southern Mississippi writing this review off of generator power (cable line is buried & has yet to go out). I just used my kit with denatured alcohol for the first time. It has again surprised me with how well it performs! Previously I was using a sterno like gel for fuel with decent results but the denatured alcohol works unbelievably! I cannot stress how valuable this little mess kit is. The one I got looks exactly like the photo by the way (perfect condition). If you buy this kit you WILL NOT be disappointed! I recommend Wolf brand chili if you're ever caught in a hurricane :)"

"Got 2 of these bad boys. One is made of a heavier metal than aluminum and the weight difference is noticeable. The lighter one has seen it share of field duty. After a clean up with soapy water and steel wool they don't look half bad. Work great and my burners after cleaning were in almost perfect shape."

"Exactly like everyone else said, awesome indestructible little stove, with a heavy pot set. Looks like the picture but aged 20 years :) Will use the stove itself and leave the rest at home, worth the price just for the stove."

"This is a well made German army mess kit. Like most German army equipment it is well made and does not rattle. A great value."

"It is a good deal for the money, but the stand I received with my set looks like its been thru Hell, literally."

"Mine was a little more used than I expected, but that's OK, I got one of the valued Stainless steel models. Burner was new, o-ring was intact, and the fuel storage bottle does not leak. Very happy!"

"I recently ordered and received this set. My son is in cub scouts, so I figured a set would come in order. After reading the reviews, I was expecting a well used piece; after all...it is military surplus. When I opened the box, I was quite surprised to see a set that appears unissued!!! Thanks CTD...excellent product!!!!"

"I bought this as an upgrade to the smaller civillian alcohol burner. Mostly after everyone I knew bought one for themselves. It arrived promptly & in excellent used condition, even the O-ring was in good shape, if a bit dry from storage. I'm absolutely thrilled with it.Filled with \"Yellow Heet\", or denatured alcohol, it will bring 2 qt of cold water to a rolling boil & then keep it boiling for 35 minutes on a single fill of the stove. If you run out of alcohol it can also be used as a \"hobo stove\" by burning small twigs & so on in the windshield, due to the built-in pot supports.Packed it will allow a reasonable amount of \"extra\" storage inside for things like condiments, oatmeal packets, knife, fork & spoon & so on.All in all it may look a bit bulky at first, but it's actually less volume & weight than a seperate stove & mess tin set.My only negative comment is that it needs some kind of strap to lock everything together & stop the handle rattling. Otherwise it would have gotten 5 bullets."

"Wow, these are great stove kits, I just ordered three of these an I received three of the much sought after stainless steel models, cant say enough good things to say about this great piece of surplus kit. My buddies and I are going to try them in the field, on the AP trail this month. Thanks Cheaper Than Dirt !"

"This is my second of this specific stove, I foolishly sold my first stove (at a 250% profit) once I bought a new commercial version for over $120.The stove I received is all steel with an OD green paintjob, in good condition (my previous version was aluminum, but this new steel version is preferred for durability). Mine is also marked SVEA '68. Cooks excellent with denatured alcohol as well as 95 proof Everclear. I usually leave the lid at home and I also cut off the bale hook. You cannot go wrong for $10!!!"

"I bid on one of these on eBay but didn't win: it sold for $61!!! I came to CTD and bought one for $9.95 and it turned out to be the stainless version (painted). I ordered it on Saturday and it was delivered on Tuesday. Now, how much better can it get? Great product, great price and outstanding delivery. Yep, I'll be back."

"I receive it with tiny cracks in the burner. Emailed CTD and they take care of it in no time!!.Sorry, email response time was ............30 seconds !!Received used with some second paint on the pot and lid, but I like it this way. I do not like brand new, never used military stuff:)I LOVE THESE GUYS...sztajmes"

"I love this stove! It was in great shape when arrived only thing I don't like about it is the weight, but thats to be expected from mil-surplus.It makes great back yard hotdogs with the kids, coffee when camping, and have even boiled MRE packets. I use denatured alcohol used for cleaning windows has worked the best, rubbing alcohol burns way to sooty but could be used in a pinch. I used it on a camping trip that got below 20 and was a little hard to light but if you really want a hot cup of coffee it will work great!"
