This filter assembly from SureFire is used to produce a smooth beam of red light that will not degrade night vision the way white light does. Hunters also use red light to avoid spooking game in the pre-dawn hours, as deer see poorly in the red spectrum. The filter is also useful for close range, non-tactical applications such as map reading as it reduces the intensity of light output.
The hinged filter lid flips open to allow white light output, thoroughly sealing off white light when closed. Locks hold the filter lid in open or closed position even under weapon recoil. Integral attachment clamp features self-locking tightening screw; 1/16" hex (Allen) wrench included.
