"this set is pretty good, but its definitely not the warmest stuff ever. even while using the whole system in korea i still couldn't sleep because i felt like i was freezing. the best part of this system is the camo outer gor-tex "bivy bag" that thing is money and will keep you dry in the rain for sure."

"I've used this bag for 18 month straight. I didn't like it at first because you still felt cold when you were sleeping, but if you use it with a thin layer of clothes and dry socks it will keep you warm no matter what the weather is like."

"I have been using the same bag since it was issued to me in 2001 (its Oct 2008). This bag has yet to fail me. Perhaps there is a warmer or a lighter bag out there, but it has worked well from summer through winter in Iraq to the high mountains of california as well as all seasons here in Texas."

"I used this bag many years when i was on active duty. It works great, but you must remember to sleep with as little clothing as possible. Put your clothes the bottom or use as a pillow. If you don't do this you will freeze. It uses radiating body heat to keep you warm."

"If you are searching for a well made bag this is it. This bag replaced all my other bags. The full sleep system is amazingly warm. The gore-tex bivy is definently worth it. Similar name brand bivys are at least $200.00 just for the bivy. The bivy can also be used with your other bags. Each bag snaps inside the other, along the zipper on both sides, so you don't get twisted around inside. The bivy shell is 100% waterproof I tested it myself and all of the seams are taped and sealed. The sleeping bags can also be used independently if needed, and compress down into a small bag. The entire system can be compressed down to 1 cubic foot! This is truly an awesome, quality made, and tough product. Would recommend to anyone."

"This is the absolute best peice of gear you can get for $119! Keeps you dry, warm, and comfortable. If used with an iso-mat, you will sleep through anything short of a fire-fight. If you buy nothing else, get this."

"I go to a military College and have used this sleep system on a couple ftx;s and I love it. it is extremely warm, and the bivy keeps you dry in anything short of an absolute downpour. The only problem that I could possible see with this bag is that the compression sack could be improved upon. I just feel the bag could get a bit smaller. Other than that the system is top notch. I would recommend it to anyone."

"All sleeping bags and bivy came in excellent used condition. No tears, no holes and all the zippers and button snaps work flawlessly with no wear or tear. Like previous review, compression sack isn't the greatest, but that's a cheap replacement item, or it's very easy to sew a few extra shrink straps on it...Great deal considering it's at least double the cost to purchase new, if you can find it new."

"Bought this at $119 (a tremendous value), and have been very happy with it thus far. The bivy did have a few (2) minute tears in the bottom and one on the top that were easily patched with a multi-use patch kit purchased at Bass Pro for $4. I have yet to test it in a heavy down pour, but intend to use it in concert with a tarp anyway so don't foresee any rain issues. I have slept in it on dry nights in sub-freezing temps with moderate wind, and slept very comfortably. Note, you will need to purchase a sleeping pad that will roll up in the sack (unless you're just one of those masochists). Compared to the price of buying comparable gear individually, you can not lose with this deal. Cheers."

"Had this system when I was in the military. Stayed warm and dry in the Colorado Rockies year round through thunder storms, snow, ice storms, everything. Worked just as well in the Alps, and desert environment. Best thing sense sliced bread."

"I tend to be a bit of a pessimist and a skeptic. It its too good to be true, it usually is. You get what you pay for, etc. . So when I ordered this bag I was expecting all sorts of defects and wear and tear. I was extremely surprised, and much to my wifes dismay because shes had to listen to me prattle on about my new bag. I used these bags in the service and their quality and durability are top notch. The used bag I got was in great condition and I could ask for a better deal. BRAVO ZULU !"

"I love this set up!!!! Just make sure you WEAR THE LEAST AMOUNT OF CLOTHING POSSIBLE!!! They are made to use your radiating body heat, so wearing your pants and jacket and boots will make you FREEZE in cold weather. A t-shirt, underwear and dry socks are the most you need to wear inside this sleeping system. Used it the entire time I was in the Marine Corps. LOVE IT!!!!"

"I recently received one of these bags and it was in basically brand new condition. I decided to put it to the test and spent a night in it where the temperature was -5 Fahrenheit with moderate wind and occasional gusts. It performed well and I stayed warm. Light clothing should be used when in this bag."

"I just got this bag on Thursday for a trip this weekend. We where leaving on Friday, so I didn't have much time to, I guess, get to know my new bag. I was able to spend two nights in it, both nights going below zero by a goodly amount. I was sweating both nights and all I wore was a base layer of under armor. I was out like a log and I never sleep!! I used to use a 40 bag with a blanket or two inside to line it, but this is all I need. Even the green patrol bag with the bivvy cover would be excellent for summer and I only had one pin hole in my bivvy cover. One of the best things I'll ever buy in my life, and I know it saved my bacon on this trip, though once I was out of the bag I got frost bite on my feet because my boots froze solid haha!"

"My bag came in great condition. The only flaw was a hole in the stuff sack about the size of a BB. There was some dust on the stuff sack but everything else was clean."

"As a survivalist I rely heavily on milsurp equipment. This ECWS bag is by far the best investment so far. CTD is my number one shop for pretty much any equipment I have or will ever purchase! Thanks CTD for great quality at great prices!"

"I purchased 6 sleeping bags for my family. Every sleeping bag is in excellent working order. I took note that one bag had had a couple of repairs made to the bivy cover. Those repairs were really good. All bags arrived in complete working order and are ready for our camping trips. Having used these bags in the military, I know how well they work. I couldn't have made a better purchase for the product/money."

"Very happy with this bag and the cost! Bivy looks almost brand new. The inner green bag, and black bag look used but in great condition. No problems at all. CTD is offering the best price anywhere on an excellent sleeping bag. If I had unlimited funds I would get another just to store."

"I don't know how this was rated as Grade III. Aside from a single faded label on the black bag this MSS is in like new condition. The only MX required was a wash. I'm very happy with bag and the price."

"I had one of these in the Marine Corps, and got one off of CTD for Christmas. Have used it a couple times in the mountains this winter, and have slept like a baby! A couple of my city-boy friends were ill-prepared to sleep in the cold, they needed this bag..."

"After reading all the reviews, I ordered this bag, along with a number of other items. I figured, "How can I lose?" When I received and inspected the system however, I was disappointed to see that the inner, black bag had 3 tears in it. Knowing that surplus items are non-returnable, I decided to call Customer Service anyway. I will admit to having a bit of an attitude, which the rep gave right back to me (Good for her!). She did get permission for me to return it, which I did. The replacement item I received was in excellent shape. I will order again from this company over and over. I'm VERY happy!"

"I just got my bag in yesterday. It had a little storage smell to it but was in excellent condition. I put in the washing machine according to the directions and it came out fine. The bag to store it in also was in great condition, it looked brand new. Don't be hesitant to pick one of these up. Also if you have never used one of these before it's the best bag system out there."

"After reading other reviews I decided to buy the bag. When it arrived (Very quickly I might add) I inspected it and like everyone else, I was surprisingly impressed! It might as well have been the new bag. No holes, rips, tears or anything. Thanks CTD for yet another beautiful product."

"I just received my "used" bag in the mail today. Opened it and could not believe the condition. It appears the bag has never been slept in. The condition is beyond expectations. Best money spent on camping equipment thus far. I am looking forward to staying dry and warm with this bag."

"I bought two sets. One set is absolutely brand new mint condition! For $130! Second set barely used (ones?) I am very excited! Best investment I have made in camping gear! Love the Gore-Tex outer shell (bivy). Feels like it will last a lifetime! Thank you CTD!I wish I had that when I served in Siberia ))))??? ??? ????!(Former Russian 1st Lt, 8 years of service)"

"I found this system to suit many of my needs without spending a ridiculous amount of cash on different bags.. The intermediate bag is great for warm seasons, the patrol bag can handle many temperatures without, and both are very warm together (haven't field tested yet). The entire system is damn heavy, but I'm okay with heavier loads. If one wanted to, they could easily use just the intermediate bag and be fully clothed for most temperatures.I suggest that anyone thinking about buying this look into compression sacks for whatever combos they will be using, the included compression sack is only good for the entire system."

"Mine had some dust on the compression sack that holds the sleeping bag but the bag inside had a brand new gortex smell. Like it had been sitting for a while in storage. I opened up the sleeping bag and shows no wear or tear. No signs of use what so ever. Very good bag."

"Once I washed the bags and got rid of the mothball smell I was very happy with what I received; the bags have no holes or anything, the green 'field' bag is the only one which showed some wear on the zipper 'fob', a few other fobs were missing, replaced them w/gutted paracord, good as new. Jumped in it for a few minutes, very, very warm....cannot wait to test it out.....whenever I've used a sleeping bag without a tent [under the stars] I nearly always awoke soaked in dew, the gore-tex bivy cover should never let that happen again! LOL Thanx CTD"

"I bought this "used" item expecting some flaws. I'm happy to report the only flaw I found was one missing snap on the green bag. The bivy cover looks like new! Some other very close competition sites are selling the bivy cover alone for more than this entire package costs @ Cheaperthandirt. I will be ordering two more when I get my next paycheck. I shop around and this is by far the best deal!"

"I used this system in the Army while deployed all over the world and in all environments. There is not a better, more modular system available in the market. Having said that, the grade II was just that, used. It was missing a few snaps (not a big deal) but the gortex cover had been torn and patched in 4 different areas. I had to do some additional repairs. I would recommend buy a grade I new system instead if you can afford it."

"I bought one last month for myself. I liked it so well that I bought another this month for my 23 year old son's bug out kit. Neither of us has had the need to use them yet but are happy with the quality. As for flaws, found one zipper a little tough due to it being crushed and on that same bag a couple of snaps were unoperable due also to being crushed. That particular bag is still operational as is and we are happy campers to have the bags. Thanks once again guys at Cheaper-Than-Dirt!"

"Just got in 2 bags one for myself and wife. We had a very cold spell here and I tried the bag out in -10 degree overnight weather, outside, under tarp and was not cold at all. Bags looked like new to me, great condition and they actually worked! Great bag for cold weather or any weather. Thank you for offering this product."

"I order the sleeping module and got it in two days that was great. The only thing was it did not come with the proper issued compression sack but I had one already so no harm done. I have used my bag already and the zippers and every thing worked great."

"As a veteran I used this bag many times. I was very impressed when we went from the old style sleeping system to the ECWS. The condition of my Bag was very good. Some ware but all serviceable. You will have to run it through the wash ,gentle cycle on low heat for drying, but I expected this. I will be ordering more of these soon."

"Very minimal wear as advertised and the benefit of two bags provides for a lot of seasonal flexibility. Also the covers came in Forest Cammo pattern which is much better looking that the display picture! I'm looking forward to fall hunt or bugging out knowing a good nights sleep will be possible!"

"This is a very flexible sleeping system. Comparing this system to Patagonia, North Face, etc.; it would be easy to save about 60% of their cost with this. Mix and match to achieve comfort in varying conditions. Comes with summer bag, winter bag, and a waterproof-breathable winter shell bivy, as well as stuff sack (The bivy is great for temperatures falling below the dew point, creating morning dew, breath frost, etc.)Roomy: I am 5'10" and was able to bend my knees in the bag, not stuck in a plank position all night. Funny: The temp rating is "4 hours of sleep at negative 30 degrees." I would like to see the experiments they used to get that conclusion. --This purchase is a no brainer. Gently used, good condition."

"For the price it's a fair bargain. Mine was dirty from use, had to wash all of it. Haven't found any tears in it yet, zippers worked fine. Don't expect new cause these are not, but for the price you can't beat it since new ones run $3-400."

"Excellent Buy for the Money. All zippers fully functional, no tears, no patches. Tight fit for "fat boy"; but bags do what they are supposed to do. After opening, I washed in cold water as label stated. Air dryed. Will store this unstuffed in cedar closet. Also, will purchase 2nd bag for spouse."

"Just used these this weekend. Weather was 35 at night and kept us toasty. Girlfriend used all 3 sections, I used 2. We were very comfortable.I ordered 2 - of course we washed and dried them (including the compression bag, before using. They had the "stored" smell that came out after washing. both were previously issued and had some wear but not abuse. All items were as described by CTD and we are VERY happy. If they ever come back into stock we will be buying more for our unprepared friends who visit our camp site."

"Mine came in the compression sack with all the bags rolled separately. First night I slept in the light bag in 50 degree weather and it was perfect. Having both bags plus the bivy cover and a compression sack is really awesome especially for the price. The condition of mine seemed unused/ maybe very light use."

"This being the first purchase I made of used items from CTD, I wasn't sure what to expect, but the 2 sleep systems I got were in excellent shape, with only 1 snap missing its opposite half out of all the snaps on the 2 entire sets! For the bargain price compared to what I would have paid had I not been able to turn them in when clearing the Army to retire 10 years ago, or what other vendors of milsurplus gear charge for these today, I thought the risk was worth it, and the gamble paid off!"
