"I received my pack in a box with many other great items from CTD...Very nice pack with a rubber liner and two inside top flaps that buckle together...Seems to be very new/unused condition with a little tiny rust spot on a buckle, I rubbed it off with a stiff sponge...This bag goes great with my East German rain camos and the rain pattern tent..."

"I bought a number of these several years ago when they were $15 and have always thought they were worth it at that price. They're tough as nails and keep your stuff dry as a bone. Great for short excursions and the suspension system keeps the pack from being directly against your back, plus it can mate nicely with a number of different web belts. DON'T PASS IT UP AT THIS PRICE. GET YOURSELF A BUNCH OF 'EM. YOU WON'T BE SORRY!!!!"

"I've had this pack for a while. I am impressed with its durability and construction. The rubberized liner is a great bonus. The harness might be a bit undersized if you are a big guy, though. I really like the straps that come with it. They are perfect for strapping on a poncho or jacket to the outside of the pack. For the low price, you can't go wrong!"

"The pics of this looked good and the real product is no joke. The harness system was a little bit of a mystery until I tried it on, the second set of front straps hook to your belt, but what about the 3rd strap in the back? Same-same I suppose. My pack looks brand new and I plan to get more soon to make 'bug-out' bags for me and my team. One could expect to pay so much more for this kind of quality, but for this price; this one is truly \"Cheaper than Dirt!"

"well it's cheap, that's the good news. The bad news is that its of low quality. The straps make a lot of noise when dangling and easily come off the bag. Couple of the straps are designed to attach to the belt (which is not sold) so now are just dangling free. The fabric its self is thin cotton with plastic backing so it is water proof but very thin. Would have been 1 star if not for the price"

"My pack came in almost brand new condition, the only defect was some rust on one of the hooks but this is only a minor flaw. The bag is very durable and the suspension system seems to work with any normal belts and pants. The bag has many precautions to keep your items dry, these include: a rubberized liner with extra rubber to fold over your things, an internal flap and belt system that prevents water from coming under the sides of the main cover, and the main cover is nicely secured with two belts. This is a great piece of equipment with an interesting (and appealing) camouflage pattern. I am especially fond of the incredibly low price! I highly recommend this bag (especially if you live in wet regions, like me). Buy it now; with a price like this, I can imagine that CTD may run out!"

"No, it's not exactly a high quality pack, but at less than $5, it's a steal. Even though I said it's not high-quality, that's not to say its not good for what it is. It feels pretty durable and is surprisingly water-resistant. It makes a great day-pack, camping bag, or overnight bag, and you don't have to worry about it getting lost, stolen, or damaged because it's so cheap. There's no reason not to buy this if you need a cheap, waterproof, knockaround bag."

"The bag is actually a little bigger than it looks in the picture which was good. I plan to put a few essential survival items in it and use it as an egress pack for the inevitable social chaos to come. If I had a complaint, it would be that the straps are a litte hard to figure out, but really who cares about that. It's a good bag for my purposes and a great price."

"I love this little daypack. I bought it for fishing and small excursions. Couldn't be happier. Looks cool, is water-resistant & functional. Got one to make sure it was a real value. For me, it is. I will get at least one more."

"This is a pretty good pack. I loaded it up with about 150 rounds of ammo in boxes, a couple of full AR-15 mags, and a full AK-47 75rd drum! and then threw in some random stuff like walkie talkies, a scope, empty mags. Its a pretty good sized pack. AND ITS STRONG. Haven't tested the waterproof lining yet but it looks like it'll probly do something. It's a good buy, great range bag. You could probly make a nice SHTF pack with this.."

"I have been using this bag for seven years now during turkey season to carry my decoys. I sprayed the straps OD & it looks like the day I received it, only dirtier. It's tough, easy to carry and big enough to use for any walk through the woods. I even tied two on as saddle bags behind my cantel. GREAT BAG!!!"

"As SubversivePatriot says,I will be buying more! Swamphunters idea of saddlebags, excellent and easily done. Have to vote a 5. Not low quality, look brand new to me. Bought 4 from a picture, reviews and price. Want to thank Shocktrooper on the harness, had it all together but the belt harness was messing with my mind. Thanks for taking the time to right your review. As far as the D-rings, crimp the connectors. Far as noise, wrap them in tape. As far as the belt harness, going buy to some for friends, when they tell they can't figure out the 3 point harness, I'm going to say why those are belt connectors, heres your sign. Thanks CTD"

"I bought 4 bags to use as go bags and miscellaneous carry all bags etc. Three looked new, one was OK. Only one had the extra outside straps for holding a bedroll or shelter half. The straps are a mystery unless you know Eastern Bloc gear. The straps clip to the pack and the other two 'hook\" to your belt. The one in the back goes down the rear to your belt too. They are a bit short because the average East German was not particularly big. If you let out all the length etc they will just about make it for a 6ft or less person. The bags make good carry alls and at the price it is hard to complain. They are designed as part of a total package of web gear so using them by themselves is not as easy but doable. Hope this helps."

"I have many of these and use them for a variety of things. all the other ones i have i bought elsewhere, and paid 5 dollars for them. they did not come with straps. i use them for taking ammo into the field for shooting, one is a first aid kit and others have multiple used around the house. this one is going to be my day pack / hunting trip pack. the straps are a bit funny, but the pack is very comfortable for what it is, i plan on making a frame for it and putting some better straps on it."

"Great quality, great size, and amazing suspension system! Whoever thought of building suspenders into a backpack was a genious! If you're out hiking through the woods this pack will stay securely strapped to your back back AND hold your pants up! I love it. Plus it smells nice."

"I got a bunch of these when they were being sold as a 4 pack, and they came in brand new condition. The straps are a little complicated, but I had some old GI utility straps, so I threw them on these and use them as shoulder bags. they are great quality, very roomy, tough, and ugly enough that nobody wants to steal them. For $3.99, they are a bargain, get a few, you will wish you had bought more."

"This is a great bag for the price. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 bullets was that the title lists it as grade II and the packing slip I got said grade III. My bag is good, but it had obviously been used, as it had some writing on the front. Plan on buying more of this bag."

"I got 2 bags, one new but no rubber lining. I am dissapointed because that's why I bought it. The second bag has rubber lining, but it is in used great shape. It has a big white S, or a #5 on the front that I can not scrub off."
– skipperchuck

"I got 3 of these. Only one has the internal rubber, but that's not a big deal. A simple garbage bag would suffice to keep essentials dry, and this bag itself will probably turn most rain. At any rate, it's a good deal for the price. Now if only it had a way to attach a couple of canteens. I'm thinking you could remove the two hooks in the back (rather than attaching them to a belt), and have the two straps (with no noise) free to either tie together or secure somehow across your chest for extra stability. There might be a way to tie those two straps through a loop on a canteen cover, and have the canteens dangling in front of your chest (maybe it might be too complicated). I think it will be a great minimalist day/overnight pack."

"This is probably the best $4 I have ever spent for a bag. Mine came in new condition. Will definitely be using this in my vehicle for various things.Get it...add it to your cart next time you order something...it is well worth the $4. I will probably throw another one in my cart next time I place an order. Insane value on this."

"I grabbed one of these due to the great price and solid reviews without actually knowing what I was going to do with it. The construction and material is great, the straps (while confusing at first) are solid, and it has plenty of space to spare. I decided use mine to make a \"Get Home\" kit to stick in my car in case the poop hits the fan while I am out. You just can't beat this deal."

"Okay, got mine yesterday. Moth ball smell was great and I'm not sure I want that gone! Not one of those purse types, so the straps are gonna be fun to figure out. Even so I give it a five since one I get the straps, buckles and gizmo's squared away, it'll be awesome. No liner, but hey, it's still gonna be great for trips and such as a nifty carry on!"

"The price is cheap and the stitch quality is solid. It's big enough to hold folders and books too, so my daughter has a backpack for the next school year that might actually make it past 2 months without unraveling! Just messing with it out on the counter, I couldn't figure out how to assemble the buckles, but after my wife put it on me and used me as a model we figured it out pretty fast."

"Solid but simple build. They don't make things like they use to. Just cut the straps off the three hook things, suspenders just make the pack a hassle. Worth the price just to have. A little stinky though."

"The pack itself was amazing. I actually strapped it to the Mil-tec Mountain pack. It was a task but it's great. I put in a Henry Survival Rifle, 22 LR ammo, Glock 19, 9mm ammo, combat knife, Magnesium fire starter, and a good many MRE's. Now I have ponchos, first aid kit, small tent / compressed sleeping bag, and my full size 1911 pistol."

"I order 3 of these bags and they are great. They smell over-powering. I think a little time to air out will help. Still could not figure out what the middle strap goes to though? The bags would have received 5 bullets if they didn't smell so bad."

"Just received two of these beauties and am very impressed in what looks like will be a couple of very durable bags; both were like new with a waterproof liner intact that looks like it will do the job of keeping the bag contents dry just fine. A rubbery smell accompanied both bags and it really wasn't too overpowering, however in the 80's I heard that East German women smelled of a similar nature so I guess it just goes with the territory. Regardless I just set the bag on the patio for a couple hours and now it's faint at best; no biggie!I've already thrown 200 12g shells in the first one and have also attached a ModGear pouch with various \"Teotwawki\" items in it. Honestly the load doesn't seem too much for this fine piece of German engineering as the series of straps, clips and buckles just beg you to load the bag with more heavy stuff. I did cut the extra straps on it though as I'm really not into the suspender thing, although I can see how they would be useful. The other satchel I'm going to leave in the original condition for awhile and debate on cutting the straps on it as well. Bottom line, it's a GREAT BAG FOR THE COIN and makes a great addition to any outdoor kit or what ever else folks out there want to put together."

"I bought 8 of these packs after reading the reviews. I am very pleased when they arrived. Took a bit of doing to figure out the strapping but once together it's suprisingly comfortable (at 5\"8\") to wear. I used one as an emergency bag loaded with a few select goodies, gave one to each kid and the old lady. Used a couple for ammo bags for example one of those is de-strapped (they all come off without any cutting and can be reattached easily) down to just the closing straps and the carry handle. Currently loaded with about 440 rounds 5.56mm + 60 rounds of 00 12ga. Just the tote handle has no problems carrying the load. Each had the rubber liner. It folds out huge, making a great big rubber sack then tucks back in. Unshown is three flaps with yet another buckle that tucks inside the top flap helping to further secure the contents. All bags were in like new condition. The only thing that didn't look absolutely perfect were the metal clasps which had minimal amounts of oxidation. There was no rust, 100% functionality all around. Regarding the smell: All 8 had a tiny rubber oder to them, but nothing like the stink that comes with any rubber item like a boat or air mattress. Perfectly normal on any \"new\" rubber-type product."

"Great waterproof bag, well worth twice the price. A few of the 12 we got needed to be aired out a bit, all where in great shape. Great for day hikes, we're putting one each aside with a change of clothing to add to our BOB gear. Wonderful to store a little emergency kit in your car/truck."

"Just received 3 of these, very impressed. All three in excellent shape, with intact (seemingly brand new) liner. They do have a faint smell, I think from the rubber liner. But really it's not bad at all, compared with how some people have described it. Honestly, reminds me of New Car smell. As far as the quality, these things are very well made, seem like they'll hold up to anything but extreme abuse. I'm a big guy, and I can tell the straps aren't made for bigger guys, but I still like the idea of how they work. I'm going to use one of these for my pistol gear, not sure yet what I'll do with the other two, but for the money, I figured why not have a couple on hand?"

"Great for the price! I wanted something a little more simple and practical. I was going to give it 4 stars, but then I just looped the hooks around the cloth loops on the side of the bag. And cut off the other two straps, and the one that went down the center of the back. That's what I did with mine, and it works for me."

"This pack was absolutely amazing. It is a real piece of Cold War history. This item has a extremely low price for such a pack and Y-straps. "Ordered three of these to be used for various things. All three came and looked like they were brand new. One did not come with the rubberized straps, but all came with the backpack/suspender setup. They only took a minute to figure out how to mount them up, too. These smell like brand new rubberized bags, not old and musty or mothball-y at all. Besides the big top flap, this bag has some internal flaps and material to help protect the insides from rain. This could probably stand up to a full-on downpour without getting the insides wet."

"This is a really good quality weatherproof liner. What is up with the straps? The straps are crazy and require two sets of eyes and a model to figure out. There were no instructions on how to mount the strapping, which are very intricate and over complicated. I referred to the product picture to figure it out."

"This backpack is great! Shipping was on time and everything. Took it out in the recent ice/snow storm that just hit the south, got it covered in snow and ice and everything stayed dry. One problem though, mine didn't come with the straps you see on the side and top. Straps are a little confusing but I had mine together in twenty minutes. This pack is meant to be used with a webbing belt. I would definitely recommend this to future buyers."

"Grade II condition? Mine are unissued - perfect condition. I used this system before while training in Europe. The camouflage is for real. It's hard to spot at a distance on rainy / overcast days - if that matters to anybody out there. Don't be intimidated by the straps. Just take your time to figure them out. I bought 4 of these for hunting - one for me and one for each of my boys. Great price on a good bag. Shipping was super fast. We're going to get creative and attach some molle straps to them for more flexibility. Another little gem you find at CTD."

"The extra straps are suspenders that clip onto your belt and work fantastic! Basically, a rear suspender clips or straps around your belt in the back. Look at the second CTD photo to see the rear suspender, it's the one in the middle. Then there are the two main front straps to contend with. These divide into two more straps about mid way down the front. The two front straps with the big clips near the end are the front suspenders. When throwing the pack onto your shoulders (to put it on) you will want to clip these to your belt first thing. One goes on the right and one goes on the left. They will take the load off your mid-back and hold the pack up. The two remaining straps are the main carry straps. These have big rounded metal loops at the end and easily clip on and off the bottom corners of the pack. They go under each arm and clip about mid way down the back. One last feature, there are three little canvas loops. One on each side and another on the very top under the carrying handle. These loops are for tieing a poncho, blanket, or tent to the outside of the pack. Simply, roll up your blanket, tent, or poncho into a 3' long roll. Then lay the centered roll on top of the pack and tie it to the top canvas loop. Then drape the rest of the roll downward onto the left and right sides of the pack and tie each end down. Great little day-pack."

"Great condition! You could easily sell these for $15. Can clean and folded neatly. There was a #6 in some type of white marker on the back but it only adds to the authenticity. Look at the picture on CTD to see how the straps connect. I will be buying 10 more as soon as I am finished writing this! Cheers!"

"I understand the low cost is one thing, but the smell coming from this pack is a cross between Mildew and Panther pee. I am going to have to hang it in the sun for a few weeks to get rid of the smell. It stunk up the rest of the stuff I bought as well. Also, the strap set up.... this should come with a 750ml of Tequila to figure the strap set up out without a large printed picture. Otherwise, the materials are good, the straps and buckles decent quality. I bought this for my 6 year old son to be able to carry his own bushcrafting/camping stuff in. Nice size, but they really should be deodorized or at least a warning in the add or something.Would I rec someone else to get one, yes, but be warned they smell and you need to be drunk to figure out the straps, it all makes perfect sense with vodka or tequila in you."

"Great day back for the price. I bought one, and those it was likely never issued, the metal parts do some minor signs of corrosion / oxidation, but nothing serious. Some people have commented on the smell, and it smells pretty much like other Cold War surplus rubberized items. I doubt claims that this could \"stink up a room\" or smells like \"panther piss\". It's well constructed and has stood up well when I took it out as my day pack. The only confusing parts are the straps. Its difficult to explain, but look at the picture above, assemble as shown, and the three extra clips you get at the end of the suspender straps are supposed to go into your belt. A very comfortable, well built item for the dirt cheap price."

"Mine came in \"new condition\" in plastic bag. The only smell was new plastic (vinyl) smell. It is a strong smell, but will air out quickly, I'm sure. I'll be getting another. At this price, why not?"

"Bought a couple of these the first time to check out the value, condition and usability. I was not disappointed and promptly ordered 4 more. Gave 1 to each of my older boys. One uses it on film shoots to carry smaller items and accessories. Every time I place an order, I always add at least 2 more bags to the order. Now have 6 bags for myself plus 2 for my boys. Keep buying these until they're no longer available."

"For the price this is a great bag for any use. The straps are a little confusing to figure out, but when it's together they work like a charm! I take this bag to range with me and it holds all the stuff I need for a days shooting. I'd take this on hunts with me also because of the size and it's waterproof. Mine had a little bit of a funky smell also, but I let it air out and now it's fine. Go for this one if you're on the fence."

"I ordered 4 of these bags, for the price they are a steal. I figured out of 4, I would get a couple of good ones. All 4 came wrapped in plastic and brand new. Like everybody says the straps are a little confusing. But that's my only gripe. Great water proof bags. No rust, corrosion or smells, other than the smell of new vinyl. Better order some now before they are gone or the price doubles. They are great to carry a gas mask and a 3 pack of extra filters."

"Turns out, these packs work great as horse riding saddle bags-the rubberized vinyl and the inside cover makes them resistant against the rain, sweat from the horse, and all the muddy crap that flies up when you are riding. You can stack another pack on to rings in the front of the first pack, and the hooks in the back fit perfectly onto the D-rings on my German riding saddle. I haven't tried it yet, but you can also invert the backpack straps so they go around the front of the pack to be used as adjustable straps to carry something light but bulky such as a blanket or sleeping bag. There are plenty of rings on this pack to use your own bungees instead, if you wanted to the eliminate the backpack straps. What a great find!"

"This bag is a great buy for your walking trips in the woods. I bought one and works good it had a little bit of rust on some of the metal but a little oil and some sand paper and it was good to go. I haven't tried it yet but with the liner in if you have nothing else this pack could be used to carry water. I will be buying more."

"I should have ordered a few of these. Very cool and very sturdy. I am gonna use it as an ammo bag for the range. The ak47 magazine bags match it perfectly and this will hold alot of ammo for your other guns, plus hearing and eye protection. Took me a few minutes to figure out the straps but I got it without hurting myself!!!"

"Everywhere else online these go for 10, fifteen, even twenty dollars before shipping. STRAPS-- easy to latch to the pack, then the 3 hooks just slide down the strap and you attach them to your belt to act as weight-bearing suspenders. Not as hard as it seems, just a ingeniously weird design."

"Mmmmmmm...I love the smell of army surplus in the morning! This bag is better than I expected. Looks like it's unissued surplus and not used which just tickles me. And, as always, CTD processed and shipped asap."

"I was a little skeptical at first, but as previous reviewers said: The pack appears to be new or almost new, with very little wear. Now I wish I would have got the AK47 mag pouch in addition to this pack!"

"This pack is awesome. It arrived early and was brand new! All the components were high quality and it appears to have never been used. After a few minutes of fiddling with the strap I was set to go. I use this pack to go on day hikes, and I tend to get wet so this pack is perfect with the waterproof liner. I definitely recommend this one guys"

"It's a solid little pack, seems to be in Grade I condition. It took forever to figure out the straps though. The Y-strap system is difficult to figure out if you have no pictures of people wearing them for reference. But once I got it on, it fit well and the load was distributed nicely. Hint for putting the thing on: one set of straps goes around your belt."

"I have to agree with the other good reviews. These are great little packs. They're not horribly large, but they would be good for a day pack, a saddle bag, or for emergency supplies as others have said before. The straps are a bit confusing at first, but the picture certainly helped. I'm just not used to seeing straps with clips to hook to a belt. I'll have to see how those work out."

"Great condition. If your trying to figure out your straps give it to an old timer. Made car go bag for Mom and apparently the old school bags used to use the same strap setup. She had it up and running in under 30 seconds."

"Geeze. Prepare to spend an hour figuring out how to hook the dang straps up, then spend another 30 minutes adjusting them. I'm not sure if I like the belt attachments. I never tuck my shirt in. Pretty sure these were meant to be worn with some liederhosen. Once all together though, overall it's pretty cool."

"Have seen these bags at this price in CTD for years and just had to try one. I saw comments on the straps so checked online and figured them out relatively quickly.Pro's: Price, condition appears brand new, seems totally waterproof.Con's: Main pocket is the only pocket and funky rubber odor inside (deduct 1 bullet); tried scrubbing w/soap and water, baking soda, Lysol, and airing outside, but still has that \"surplus rubber backpack in storage since fall of Berlin Wall\" smell. I would not store food in this bag but it keeps other gear dry and ready just fine. Would be a great trunk, boat, or saddle bag."

"In very good shape, minor discoloration by the top metal hook. Had some trouble figuring out the straps, but it turned out to be a lot easier than I thought. It is definitely worth every penny, but I'd have been willing to pay an extra dollar to have a sheet with printed instructions come with it. I think a lot of others would agree with me there."

"Had been eying these for quite awhile, finally ordered 3; none came with the waterproof liner, but I don't need it anyway. These are a good deal bigger than I had thought, they are a tough, water resistant material that smells like an old surplus store. These are very versatile and can be configured, with a little imagination, based on your needs. And one needn't worry about any harm coming to these bags as they are so cheap that it's not a big loss. Wanted to order a few more, just noticed they are sold-out....please, CTD, get some more! And thnax for the usual fast shipping!"

"For less than a box of decent ammo, you can have a very versatile and tough bag. It's tough, bigger than it looks, and cheaper than dirt. The straps may take a minute to figure out but there's a video on YouTube explaining how they work. They do have the old smell when they arrive but it goes away quicker than you realize. I keep one in my car as an emergency bag. I'll be getting more when they're back in stock."

"These bags are great! I bought four of them. Two came with rain-liners and two did not. However, the two that did not come with liners are still somewhat rain proof because the inside of the fabric has a shiny coating of some sort. I strapped the two with rain liners onto my KLR 650 to use as saddle bags. They are awesome for this purpose. Don't hesitate to get a few if they're in stock!"

"I bought one a month or so ago and was very impressed with it. Once I saw the bag marked down even further I bought 4 more for friends. Additionally I bought the matching AK47 pouch and removed the dividing liner from it for a GREAT waist pouch.WARNING: the $5.00 bags DON'T HAVE THE WATERPROOF LINER and show FAR MORE USE than the bag I originally received. However, without this liner, they're a little lighter and hold a tiny amount more.Ultimately, even without the liner these are great gets. One of the bags I got is covered in writing and has a giant \"6\" written on the back, but for $5.00 I can live with that."

"These packs are so cheap! This is the best 5 bucks I ever spent. So I ordered three. Delivery was quick and all three packs were in excellent condition and included straps for each one which were also in great condition. One of the packs even had a German soldiers name in the little info see thru pocket, and had a couple items inside! A olive drab colored beanie head cap thing and a small mesh net/bag thing. Hah cool! I decided to use one bag as a range bag just for the big crap like duct tape, a towel, shoot n-c targets, ammo and water bottles. Works great just using the top handle. Another bag I have given to my son who brings 1000 toy cars with him everywhere and so far they all fit in his new \"army\" pack as he calls it- with a lot of room to spare. well you have a lot options maybe I'll use the third pack when we finally get vacation, who knows. They are all very durable and very well made. The ONLY thing that is a downside. None of the three packs had a water resistant liner... But I still am very pleased as a super cheap all purpose tough pack!"

"These bags are well worth the money baught 2 one for a range bag and one just because. Both appear to be brand new unissued. Straps were pretty easy to figure out. I will probably cut off the extra straps that would attach to a web belt very happy with the bags. Thanks CTD!!!"

"I bought three of these, two for my bug out bags to put in my two vehicles, and one to give to my wife. I know that sounds weird, but she is kinda indie, and wanted one for her books in college. They are VERY sturdy and are far bigger than the picture gives them credit for. Plus they smell great! After all, what's the point of getting mil-surp equipment if you don't get the smell;)"

"OK first let's get this straight, this was never used by any military. I own many surplus items that I have gotten all over the world from different time periods. NO military gear will ever have straps like this. The finish is terrible. It is a reproduction of an original German pack. On to the good, it is very sturdy and with a thick shirt or light jacket the straps are comfortable enough. I use this pack a lot when I'm on the dirt bike trail riding or checking fences around the farm. And my gear stays dry as long as I don't dump the bike while going through the creek(again)."

"I liked these so much the first time, I ordered two more! These are great little bags; very spacious and lined with an integrated rubberized waterproofing layer. The strap system can be a bit confusing to rig properly, but there are a few good guides on YouTube and various forums. Turns out the bag was designed to be worn with a full harness/web gear system, hence all the extra straps and strange loops. All 3 bags I received were in like-new, unissued condition. Some buckles had minor surface rust, but I feel that just adds character. The East German 'rain' pattern is also very unique, albeit no very effective. The Y-harness straps aren't the most comfortable, but they're functional. All in all, a very cool item for the collector or just someone looking for a unique, inexpensive backpack. Get 'em while they're hot!"

"\"Unissued\" things usually don't have grass in them or, as someone else pointed out, smell like a barracks slated for demolition. Still: you're getting a fully functional, undamaged piece of waterproof military gear for less than $5, so just wash it."

"Reach inside, down to the what looks like a seam at the bottom. Grab the liner there and pull. It's an unattached edge; pull it all the way out. Now you can see the true dimensions of the rubberized liner; it's a waterproof sack twice as tall as the pack! Fill the pack with your stuff -- just as much as will fit in the pack, not up to the top of the liner/sack. Then close the top of the liner, and roll it up like a sleeping bag until it's stopped by the pack. Strap the pack closed and the liner can't unroll. Now you can go white-water rafting, and your stuff will stay dry! I bought several of these packs two years ago, and they were all brand new with liners & webbing. I use them for day trips, as tool boxes, as trunk organizers and as my gym bag. My daughter uses one to tote up to fifty pounds of modeling clay to & from school, and she stores the clay in the pack without dessication. At this price these packs are just awesome! It's great that they're back in stock, and I'm ordering more. I hope the recent complaints of packs being received in used condition and without liners, are aberrations."

"I ordered 8 of these bags for various projects and such. Of the 8, 5 had the vinyl lining, and 6 had the straps on the exterior of the bag. Overall for the price I can't complain. They will need some washing to smell ok, but they are milsurp so it's to be expected. I will say that I find it to be false advertising to say these bags have the lining when they all do not. Basically if you order this, expect a canvas bag with the basic buckles and backpack straps, and anything else you get will be an added bonus."
