The historical Roach Belly knife was a short blade with a pronounced upswept curve and a sharp point. It was most likely named after the common Roach Fish, which had a similarly round curving belly. It was known in 17th century Britain and quite common in the American Colonies because it was inexpensive and versatile.

"Cuts like a razor! Field dressed an elk and later deboned with minimal resharpening. Use a diamond strap, because the steel is tough! Guys with the $300 knives were envious!"

"Best 10 buck knife i ever bought..........."

"I too field dressed and skinned an elk with this knife last year. I had to strop it on my chaps once to bring the edge back but it did the job beautifully. Equal to any name brand hunting knife I've used. It's actually more of a camp knife than a pure hunting knife, but it does the job. I bought two more: one for my wife and one for cooking and camp chores. My wife loves hers and uses it daily in the kitchen at home. The nylon scabbard is flimsy and will probably not survive hard use, but at this price I think it is foolish not to own two or three of these knives. It is that good. You could bypass buying that $70 Buck hunting knife and get six of these for the same price."

"I did a lot of research and read many reviews of this knife before commiting. I don't have a lot of money and wanted a good knife for a low price. I was looking for a camp EDC knife and was looking to spend about 40-50$ just to get a knife that would hold up on a long wilderness trek. MAN, this was quite a pleasant surprise! This little knife has went above and beyond the call and it still looks new! Just takes a few licks on a honing rod to bring back a wickedly hair shaving sharp edge!!! I personally LOVE the Keep It Simple Stupid sheath. I carry it scout rigged and it fits tight and secure. I have never had it slip loose and it is easy to extract! If you want a wolf in sheeps clothing this is the knife for you! FREAKIN LOVE IT! The Capn Out..."

"Again Cold Steel Knives put out a great knife. I like the feel and fit of this very much. I have the Finn Bare as well and you can read that review on the general topics about the sheath and coast. Great tool!"

"I first saw the knife on a nutenfacny /youtube review. The knife was very sharp out of the box. The blade resharpens easy with 400grit sand paper. It is a great bait knife very light at 2.6 oz. The tip is very thin and can break. Mine did and I fixed it with my bench grinder, good as new. Buy 3 or 4. GREAT KNIFE!"

"It comes with a very sharp edge right out of the box. This blade has a great curve and is very sturdy. This is a lot of knife for the money."

"Good knife, good quality holds an edge well. Check the laws where you live and make sure you can carry it legally since it is over 4-inches and that seems to be a magic number in my state for some reason."
