The Barnaul Machine Plant JSC is one of the leading producers of industrial goods and ammunition in Russia. The plant's history goes far in the past to the period of Alexander I. The Emperor ordered the opening of the first cartridge plants in St. Petersburg in 1869. During World War I the plant supplied the Russian Army and operated out of St. Petersburg, During World War II, the plant was relocated to Barnaul, where production of various types of cartridges began.
This high quality ammo features lacquered steel case construction; hence the Brown Bear name. Brown Bear offers high quality at reasonable prices. "I shoot this ammunition all the time in my Makarov. Shoot almost the same as the Hornady defense ammunition I use except the Hornady shoot much tighter groups."

"Brown Bear is not bad at all for plinking, though at 25 yards it drops a bit. i have shot this stuff for about a year, and seems to be, well it's russian ammo. 5/5 for use of plinking for shure."

"I needed some 9X18 and price and availability was there when I was ready to order. I have shot it to test to see if I was ready for the 50 round shooting test for carry permit. This ammo hits where I aim using a CZ-83. Long range . . . Who cares it is not a target gun, it is a defensive gun.Penetration of this bullet in wet clay really surprised me, about 12 inches in my wet clay backstop."

"At 25 yards with my eaa witness p compact the round dropped about 12 inches. I've never shot a round that dropped that much. Did hold a 2 inch group at ten yards with about a 2 inch drop. Good round for practicing shooting but would't use for qualification for conc carry."

"I have shot 5 boxes of this through a VZ82 with no problems. Does not seem any dirtier than any other ammo. No jams, misfires, or failure to extract. Empties fly right over my right shoulder."

"I will not use this ammo ever again. Too much smoke. VERY VERT dirty and has a 3 or 4 inch drop at 25 yards. Only use this to make noise on 4th of July"

"I have fired several hundred rounds of this thru my CZ-82. No jams and feeds good. For the price, it is good practice ammo."

"This ammo is decent, but not great. Get the Wolf ammo if you require better accuracy. The price can't be beat and if you're just plinking, this is perfect."

"Just got this stuff today, shoots fine, accuracy isn't the best, but without a bench rest I cant be certain it wasn't my fault. For the price, can't beat it. No jam nor misfires in my VZ82."

"Simply put, I like it. It may be little dirty but not bad and I have shot much worse. In my CZ-82, no problems whatsoever. After shooting some, I bought more."

"Fires great till about 25-30 yards. If you fire when windy that little bugger can end up ten feet to the left of where you were aiming. VERY DIRTY."

"This ammo is alright for just burning up rounds, but it needs to be understood that it is not the same as 9x18 Ultra. I wished I knew where I could purchase 9x18 Ultra. Love my Walther and don't want to part with it."

"Can't beat 500 rounds for a hundred bucks. No jams, FTE, FTF, stovepipes, etc, shoot pretty straight too. That said, it's filthy. Plan on having some Hoppe's 9 or bore paste and 1.5 hours to completely clean your pistol."

"Excellent round. I have shot many rounds into the thousands. I have had no problems, no jams, to failures to extract, no misfires, no nothing. It cannot be beat for the price. Shooting characteristics were fine no noticeable drop at 25 yards, which all the farther I'm willing to explain to law enforcement. Excellent round."

"If you own a Makarov and are looking for some great plinking ammo, I suggest you give Brown Bear a try. Great for practice and getting a better feel for your weapon instead of using your higher priced hollow point ammo. Good value, Good performance, Good feeding in my Makarov. Hope you make the choice and enjoy it!"

"I've purchased these in the past for use in various Makarov pistols and have yet to find one that doesn't group well. Powder is a little dirty, but other than that it's great for target practice and general purposes."

"Bought this to use as practice ammo in my Czech CZ82. Ammo feeds great - no problem with a hundred rounds. Only drawback, as mentioned by others, is that it is a little dirty (nothing that a good cleaning can't handle). I'll definitely be buying more (good price too at $8.99 per 50 rds)."

"There's nothing wrong with stuff except it's smelly and very dirty. 25 yds is no problem for a man-sized target. Wouldn't compete with it, but wouldn't feel bad about using it for self defense either."

"Good stuff, feeds well, feels a little wimpy. Sellier & Bellot brand is much much hotter, more recoil, more muzzle flash."

"This is great plinking ammo! You can shoot it all day long with no issues. Very consistent and fairly accurate. I use this for competitive action shooting. I would not use this ammo for self defense, given the option of Buffalo Bore's new 9x18. This round is loaded down, but again is perfect for plinking!"

"Best ammo for my Cz82. I tried the Sellier & Bellot, Winchester, Hornady, and this 9x18mm ammo. This is the best. Great accuracy, cycles perfectly every time, and you can't beat the price. I recommend this ammo for anyone with a CZ-82 Makarov."

"Put 100 rounds through my PA-63 today - function was very good, accuracy was decent. Note that rounds are very dirty - I shot about as many rounds of Wolf 9x19 through my CZ-75B and the Brown Bear is much dirtier. Regardless, it's good ammo. No failures to fire, no failures to cycle, etc. Buy without hesitation - I'll definitely be purchasing more. As always Cheaper than Dirt was very fast with their shipping."

"Put a few boxes through my new (to me) PA-63. Cycled fine. As others have mentioned, it's very dirty and smelly. I had accuracy problems with it. Not sure if that's the ammo, the gun or the shooter. Will expirement with other rounds to determine. But for the price, hard to beat."

"What can I say... This ammo shoots great out of my P-64 and CZ-82. It's a bit dirty, but great for range/plinking ammo. I've not had any issues shooting it, except for the horrible smell."

"Great ammo for the price. Slightly smokey, but I've shot over 500 rounds through my Makarov and have never had a misfire or jam. Only cheaper way to shoot is to reload your own."

"I ordered a hundred rounds of this through CTD to run through my CZ82 Makarov. After shooting those, I immediately went to a local dealer and bought more. My CZ gobbles these up, and spits them out rather accurately. I'm no marksman but even I can keep all 12 within a 3\" circle at 10yds offhand. Are they dirty? Yes. But most of what is called \"dirty\" is the lacquer coating that's applied to the bullet and casing. The powder itself is dirtier than say, S&B, but it's no worse than blazer, silver bear, and it's much cleaner than any Tul I've come across. Heck, sometimes I like the coating; it actually makes it possible to see that near invisible rifling in the CZ82!"

"The rounds cycle well, powder is a tad smoky.Lacquer buildup in the bore is a pain when you're cleaning.Within 25 ft it's a good round, after that- noticeable drop."

"Fires every time out of my P64. Very accurate round. I much prefer this over TULA, which has the tendency to not ignite the primers occasionally. Very good plinking bullet."

"It's dirty and smelly; not the world's most accurate target ammo by any means. Your Makarov will eat it by the truckload and ask for more. If you want a pistol and cartridge combo that you can afford to shoot a LOT (and of course we all do) it's hard to beat a Mak and brown bear 9x18. As long as you're getting a good price on this, load up on it and enjoy it for what it is - the Soviet pistol companion to the AK, with all the benefits, limitations, and history that it carries."
