Leave it to the Austrians to devise the perfect shelter half tent. Each of the two halves include 5 galvanized steel ground stakes, 4 aluminum pole sections, and one length of guide line with an attached aluminum tensioner. The water repellent fabric is lightweight and durable nylon in O.D. Green color.
Shelter half tents were designed so that each soldier would carry exactly one half of what was needed to build a complete tent. When setting up camp, two soldiers would simply take out their shelter half kits, button the fabric pieces together to form the tent body and then use their shared poles, stakes, and guide lines to complete assembly. This is why each half ships in its own button flap pouch and a complete tent comes as a set of two pouches.
Austrian's level of attention was paid to even the smallest details including, but not limited to: reinforced stitching, parachute cord guide lines, and aluminum, galvanized, or copper washed steel hardware to resist the elements.
When laid out flat, each shelter half looks like a rectangle with a triangle on both ends. Once both halves are buttoned together, the triangular fabric areas meet to form a gear vestibule on both ends of the assembled tent.
Including gear vestibules, end to end, each tent measures a generous 10.75' long with a width large enough for two men to sleep comfortably shoulder to shoulder.
We have stocked shelter halves from many countries and from many eras, but this is the best setup we have ever seen from a design and durability standpoint. Used in excellent condition; Limited quantities, they won't last long at this price.
