"I wanted to make my own panniers for my bike, rather than spend $50 to $80 at a bicycle shop. So, I decided some used military rucks would be a good test piece, and at $4 apiece there was no risk if it was a disaster. I thought that these rucks would be very thin nylon (from the pic it looks that way) and that I could spray a bunch of 3M repellent on them to make them waterproof, since they'd be close to the road and mudpuddles, plus, if they had as many connection points as the ad says, it shouldn't be too tough to rig a way to connect them to the bike rack. What I received was a huge surprise. These packs are very high quality looks like something between 600 and 1000 denier nylon, and I actually believe they were completely unissued; seemingly brand new and spotless: no wrinkles, no odors, no stains, nothing! I almost felt bad that I would be modifying them. What arrived differed not only from my expectation, but from the pic here as well. The two rucks I received are olive drab, rather than the khaki pictured (no problem, actually a better color for what I want, since they won't show the dirt as much). The dimensions are larger than what's listed, by around an additional inch in height, and another inch in depth. The rucks are larger than expected. The H-straps aren't needed for what I am doing, but I tested them by connecting them to the ruck. I think you'd want some sort of military issue belt if you planned on using this as a rucksack, since the way the pack hangs is more like a low-ride/fannypack, and connecting the pistol hangers to a belt would make the ruck more comfortable. The interior pockets listed in the ad are tiny, it's really just one huge center compartment with a strong drawstring at the top, plus the flap (seen in the pic) over top. The buckles are simple, spring-loaded, and metal. There are attachment points on various places on the outside of the pack, all seem sturdy. There is the 2 straps on the bottom for a sleeping mat...."

"This pack is really really nice for under $4.00. It is much more substantial than you'd think. The Nylon is thick and the shoulder straps are padded canvas design. The entire pack is outfitted in with heavy metal clips and slide grabs. Damn good bargain. Thanks guys."
