Federal has the right ammo for any application in the Vital-Shok line, even for youth hunters such as these TruBall Low Recoil Deep Penetrator rounds. This example, in 12 gauge, has a 2-3/4" shell loaded with a 1 oz rifled slug which it fires at 1300 fps. It's a good choice for deer or for home defense.

When you're hunting animals with tough hide and bone like bear or hogs you need a robust, reliable slug to get the job done. When Federal Premium set out to make the smoothbore slug more effective for the standard slug slinger, the Vital-Shok Slug TruBall system was created. We've reinvented, redefined slug technology and that means you can upgrade without changing barrels.

With the vast majority of slug hunters using traditional smoothbore rifled slugs, we set out to make the smoothbore slug more effective for the standard slug slinger. The TruBall rifled slug system is the result, and the most consistent group-to-group smoothbore slug on the market. With a simple ball that centers the slug in the barrel, we've reinvented and redefined smoothbore slug technology and expectations. See for yourself with 2" groups at 50-yards.

"The box says low recoil..... they lied! haha, okay seriously, the slugs were decent. Accuracy was alright (50 yards, 20mph cross-wind). Instead of low recoil, try less recoil. My shoulder felt really sore after putting 5 down range."

"These worked great in my 1100. Recoiled like you expect a shotgun to, but not punishing."

"Definitely not for rifled barrel or rifled choke. At 50 yds we got 7 inch groups with rifled choke and 4 inch groups with rifled barrel. Stick with smooth bore and keep range typical old school shotgun, 50 yards or less..the 70 yards claim is a real stretch. Accuracy poor, but they cycled well through our semiauto and our pump."

"I'm getting tight groups from 18.5\" smoothbore (with ghost ring sights)and recoil is much lighter than a standard 1 oz slug loads (1600 fps). I am very impressed with the accuracy I'm getting with these. I won't quote group sizes since I haven't fired from a bench yet. I can say that I believe them to shoot a little better than the Brenneke THD low recoil which already gave me impressive accuracy, but these cost a lot less. Both (Brenneke THD and Fed. Truball) give accuracy I didn't think possible from this gun and I'll leave it at that. I think these low recoil slugs are the way to go in a defensive shotgun. This load still sends a full once of lead that is what? .90 caliber? out at 1300 FPS. For Buckshot I'm staying with full power loads. This truball \"system\" is a step forward, it's my new slug of choice."

"I am getting near cloverleaf groups at 50yds with these from a Remington 870 \"Tactical\" that came equipped with ghost ring sights and has an 18.5 inch smoothbore, cylinder choke, barrel. This is about the same accuracy or better than I was getting from the expensive Breneke \"Tactical Home Defense\" (Man, Tactical sure is the popular word this year!) Both are \"less\" recoil, both are accurate, the Federal is cheaper. Also, it goes to show what is possible when you insist that your defensive shotgun have good sights."

"Tested 4 brands of reduced recoil slugs at 25 yds from a Mossberg 930 smoothbore with IC choke & rifle sights. Brenneke and these Federal slugs both had tightest groups with all shots touching. Recoil of these slugs is reduced from standard 12 gauge slugs, but these are not best described as \"low\" recoil."

"I bought a few rounds of this to try out on my new Mossberg 590 with ghost ring sights. With the smooth bore on my Mossberg this was an excellent choice. The price was low and it was deadly accurate. The recoil is reduced which made it a blast to shoot all day at the range. However, I wouldn't call the recoil low but more reduced. I will be buying more of this definately!"
