Byrd Flight Folding Knife -
The Flight has a hollow ground blade manufactured using 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, which is similar to Aus 8 in its properties, performance and function. 8Cr13MoV steel contains both molybdenum and vanadium. Molybdenum enhances the strength and hardness of the steel, vanadium its wear resistance and toughness. Carbon augments the steel's tensile strength and increases its resistance to wear and abrasion. Resulting from this recipe is blade steel that retains a sharp cutting edge over time and use. Most Byrds are available with a plain or combination plain and serrated cutting edge.

The "comet" shaped opening hole is a trademark of the Byrd line and is synonymous with the stringent quality requirements, high performance materials and manufacturing, which go into every knife. Fully stainless handles have a sequence of ergonomic curves that fit into the palm for comfort and fatigue free control while cutting. For additional safety, a portion of the lock release is ground away. This is a design add-on conceived by custom knife maker David Boye and eliminates the chance of gripping the knife tightly enough to unintentionally release the lock. All Byrds feature a pocket clip that clips the knife inside a pocket and it attaches to either  end of the folder for tip up or tip down right hand carry.

Clip Blade -
The clip blade is a classic shape and very practical. Its name describes a shape that seems to have a portion of the spine of the blade clipped off. This brings the blade point lower for extra control and enhances the sharpness of the tip. It provides ample "belly" in the blade for slicing or skinning and a good tip for inserting in and under things that need to be cut. You will often find a false edge with the clip point.

8Cr13MoV -
Chinese stainless steel tempered at the Rc56 to Rc58 range and used in the Tenacious, Persistence, and Byrd lines of knives.

Hollow Ground -
The ground surface of the blade is concave and used to create a fine cutting edge.

David Boye Dent -
Custom knife maker David Boye removed a small arc or dent of metal from the lock bar lever of his knives. This removed piece lessened the possibility of gripping the handle hard enough to depress the lock and accidentally unlock the blade while using the knife.

Tip Up and Tip Down -
Refers to which direction the folded knife if positioned by its pocket clip. When closed and clipped in a pocket, whichever direction (up or down) the blade's tip sits defines if it is termed tip up or tip down.
