H.U.G. Knife, Black -
The knife is the Black H.U.G. Knife (Halligan's Ultimate Gadget), designed by Ed Halligan. This H.U.G. knife features a 2.30" modified spear point blade made of 420J2 stainless steel, .12" thick, with a Rockwell hardness of 52-55. The blade of this knife has a non reflective black titanium nitride coat, a notched thumb rest for secure grip, and a thumb stud for one hand opening. The slotted stainless steel handle with black titanium nitride coat, 3.65" closed, has a single black Zytel scale and an internal Frame Lock. A black Teflon plated stainless steel pocket clip is mounted at the pivot end of this knife. The Black H.U.G. Knife with plain edge blade has an overall length of 5.71" when open and weighs 2.5 ounces.

Spear Point Blade -
The classic stabbing blade is the spear point which can have two edges sharpened or only one with a false edge on the spine. The spear point usually has both edges taper equally to a point that is exactly in the center of the blade but sometimes has different profiles for the spine and edge.

Bead Blast Finish -
can be defined as any non reflective fin ish applied to the metal surface by bead blasting or sand blasting the blade with any of a variety of media. The intent is to roughen the surface for anti glare. The trade off is it tends to be more susceptible to corrosion due to the increased surface area exposed. This finish is also commonly referred to as a "military finish".

Titanium Nitride -
Extremely hard ceramic material, often used as a coating on titanium alloys, steel, carbide, and aluminum components to improve the substrate's surface properties.

H.U.G. Frame Lock -
Like the K.I.S.S., the H.U.G. is a frame lock folder with a single sided blade.

Zytel -
A glass filled nylon material used in making handles for knives. DuPont trademark.
