"Bought 700+ rounds for DPMS AR-15 b/c I thought this was a great deal. Fired off 150 rounds of Federal and the weapon functioned perfectly. Three rounds into the Silver Bear and I had my 1st jam w/ my weapon ever. Cleared the jam and continued w/ the rest of the mag and 5-7 rounds later and there was another, but more critical jam. Needed to use a rod the force the bolt back. Thought that I may have a hot barrel (as I said...never had a jam before) but I wanted to isolate my problem and went through 40 more rounds of Federal...no issues...not gonna bother w/ the rest of my Silver Bear stock."

"I have shot over 100 rounds of this stuff through my bushmaster. It feeds and fires just like all the brass ammo I have shot. The longest we get to shoot at my range is 100 yards but at that range it is just as accurate as the PMC and Remington brass that I had with me. At this price you would be crazy not to buy a few boxes and test it for yourself."

"I've been shooting this for a couple of years in 2 Bushmasters and one bolt action, and so far, it has performed as expected. It does not compete with LC 193 or SS109 in the accuracy department, but some days, it gets close. A little dirtier, but I do clean often. In a single session, I have fired a couple of hundred rounds thru both my M4 and H-BAR without malfunction, but did experience an extraction jam when I changed back to brass LC. A quick chamber cleaning, and the Bushmasters were performing back to their boring regularity. The steel case does NOT expand and seal as well as brass, and that leads to a fouled chamber that brass tends to bind in upon expansion. For the price comparative, it performs as it should, and on occasion, the H-BAR and bolt action have stacked some sub inch groups. The quality control is about what should be expected for fun, and if needed and don't cross ammo without cleaning (steel to brass), it will be better than a knife in a fight."

"Have a Bolt action Savage 10 Predator. I normally shoot 55 grain soft point Black hills ammo which produces around 1/2" groups at 200 yards. My uncle threw me a box of these to try, in my bolt action gun they worked great, the performance was comparable to the black hills ammo. And the hollow points are fun on gophers and produce alike. I will defiantly be buying some of this ammo."

"I have no idea why everyone is playing around and spending a ton of money on other ammo when Silver Bear HPs are at least just as good. 90 rounds through my S&W M&P15 w/ 1:9 twist and not a single problem or stray. Good for sub 1 1/2" @ 100. Right after that used ammo 3x the price with 55 grain and guess what? Same performance. Need I say more? I am done paying ridiculous amounts of money for an "Established" brand. Time to send a message to these companies!"

"I am using this ammo in my Ruger SR-556 and it works perfectly. In fact I think it is much better than higher priced brass cased domestic ammo I've used. Very good accuracy at 100 yards, 2 inch groups are typical. I did notice that brass ammo ejects forward and this ammo ejects more to the rear. Not sure why but it doesn't cause any issues."

"I see no one has commented on the fact that the primer sealer has some sort of red dye in it that gets all over the inside of the gun. I have shot a few boxes of the silver bear .308 through my Remington 700 and it took me a week of cleaning to get all that red dye(or whatever it is) out of my gun...so my question is...has anyone come across this with the .223 ammo? If so, how does it affect performance in a semi auto?"

"I have shot nearly 1000 rds with 2 custom ARs with no problem. A friend shot 3 rds in his DPMS Panther and it jammed. His brass ammo worked fine. I really like this ammo, but apparently some ARs are fussy and demand brass cases. For me, the silver bear is great and I will buy more."

"I used to shoot Brown Bear, but when I noticed that this was cheaper, I gave Silver Bear a try. Very happy I made the change. Worked great, no jams, gave me ~3" groupings at 200 yds. The ammo is dirty, but as long as you keep up on weapon maintenance it won't cause any problems."

"1000 rounds of this through Colt LE6940 so far and absolutely no problems at all, not one misfire or jam. Just as dirty as any other ammo I have shot that is 4 times more expensive. 5 bullets for reliability and cost. Clean your rifle, all the time, every time!"

"Just got my order of 500 Silver bear 223 62 grain hp. I was actually impressed with the finish quality. The nickel plating is sweet. Haven't gone to shoot it yet, I have a feeling this is watermelon eating ammo. I have loaded a mag of this stuff and cycled the action and it ran through fine. Now I just need a tactical vest and I'll be ready for shtf. God Bless everyone who buys their stuff from Cheaper Than Dirt. Thank you Cheaper Than Dirt, in theses economic times your helping true Americans struggling, to become ready for the red dawn ."

"Bought 200 rds to try in my XCR. After getting jammed up with Wolf, I put all 200 through with no problems. Let my cousin use some in his AR15 for deer hunting an he dropped a small doe at 25 yds. The bullet left a near fist sized cavity and exited the other side. Good accuracy as well, 1-2 inch groups at 30 yds using a holographic sight."

"Good ammo. Running well in my 10.5" SBR with a .093" gas port. Runs fine with and without suppressor; flash at night is a little brighter than I expected. Good deal for little money, great for plinking with full power ammo.To the guy asking about sealant - there's usually a small buildup in the AR bolt under the extractor, but it's nothing to fret about. This would be a bigger issue in a bolt gun, but in my AR it's no sweat."

"I have purchased and shot thousands of rounds of 5.56 ammo from different manufactures. I shoot a M4 and I have over 5000 rounds of the Brown Bear, Silver Bear & Wolf in FMJ & HP, I have never had an issue with any of this ammo. It's really no dirtier than any other ammo just have to clean your weapon!! This is very good ammo for the price and as long as I can get my hands on it I will buy it!! 3-5 shot 1 to 1-1/2 groupings at 300 meters NO PROBLEM!"

"Okay, so I saw BTHP at this price and I had to bite, even though I know the horrors of East European & Russian ammo. All over the target!!! Thought I had too much caffeine, but then dropped 3 Remington Core-Lokt inside a dime at 100 yards with the same hot, dirty barrel. Out of my Remington 700 with a 26" Varmint barrel, I want accuracy. If you are sighting your scope, don't use this junk! LOL"

"This stuff isn't bad at all. It isn't as clean as some other factory stuff, but it shoots. I only got it as blasting ammo for my kids, so never intended to do any accuracy work with it. We took this stuff out to shoot at short distances, 25-50 yards or so just to play around. When it was almost time to leave, we moved the steel plates that we were shooting at out to 100 yards just to mess around a bit. it really surprised me when my son was nailing the targets without any trouble. I think I'm gonna take the next batch of Silver Bear out and shoot for groups with it and see what it will do. I have a suspicion that some people having accuracy problems are having those problems because their barrels don't have enough twist to stabilize the relatively heavy bullet. For the 62 grain bullet a 1:12 twist just won't get it. Not usually anyway."

"Bought this instead of the Golden Bear version since it doesn't have the laquered cases and its cheap. A little dirty though but I didn't want that laquer melting inside the chamber of my AR15 when the barrel heated up neccesitating more time cleaning. Shot 200 rounds of this stuff through my rifle with no jams or malfunctions. Can't say the same for my friend though. He has a dissapator upper and this ammo had problems cycling the bolt with enough power causing jams and FTF's. Bolt wouldn't stay open after the last shot either. I shot the dissapator upper with Silver State Armory rounds and had no problems at all."

"I have shot 200 rounds of this ammo with no failures. I like the sealed primers, the BTHP, and how the zinc coated casings feed like nickel plated brass. The ammo is not very dirty and for the price you would be crazy not to try it out, great plinkin ammo."

"I read the reviews other people wrote on this who had mini-14's to see if I should get it for my mini. GARBAGE! When I shoot federal bulk target ammo im flinging brass 20 feet at the range. When I shoot this crap it barely clears the chamber of my rifle. The first round i fired of this didnt clear the bolt enough to even properly feed round #2. Not to mention, yes, it is dirty. Spent more time cleaning my rifle after using this than any other time Ive gone shooting and I only fired about 20 rounds!!! Your money would be better suited if you just flushed it down the toilet."

"I've bought 600 rounds so far and the first 500 were perfect. i only had 1 misfire. perfectly understandable. but the next 100 were a differnet story. I had 5 misfires almost back to back. the round itself fire but as my shell extractor grabbed the back of the casing it ripped the lip of the shell off. the fifth jam i had required me to take it to the gunsmith at the range to have it fixed. im going to try golden bear next."

"I bought a 100 rounds to test in my DPMS AR-15 to see if this would be good plinking ammo for the weekend warrior like myself. The hundred rounds cycled without any issues and my groupings were within 1 to 3 inches at 25/50/100 yards. When I went to clean the gun, I was expecting it be dirty as Wolf ammo. It was not as dirty as I expected. For the price, I can deal with ammo that is a little more dirty as long as it cycles fine in my AR-15. If you are a weekend warrior like myself, then I think you will be satisfied with this ammo. If you are an expert instructor, or one of those individuals that can shoot the wings off a fly at a 1000 yards, then spend the extra $$$ for what you consider the best ammo for your shooting needs."

"I am not in law enforcement or military, but I am a very serious shooting enthusiast. This ammo is very good for 50 to 75 yard range that most ARs would be shot with the "weekend warriors" out there. Out of a 30 rd mag had a flier or two but for the most part I shot 1 1/2 inch groups at around 75 yards with a fixed 4x scope. Would recommend to anyone who wants inexpensive ammo to shoot that could save your life if need be."

"This ammo is great stuff for the price. My department is strapped as far as range training, and this cheap ammo is a good excuse to get more much needed time in. I ordered 500rnds for a deputy I work with, and he shot about 400 with only one mishap. The neck of the case broke off. This should not be a huge thing as anyone that has a .223 SHOULD have a broken shell extractor on hand. He was using his Issued Olympic Arms AR-15. I've shot 40rnds of it through my issued Colt A3 and it shot great."

"Very cheap this is one of the best buys in ammo online.YES, it is dirty, but does it matter much really, I mean you have to clean the rifle anyway, right? The bottom line is that the price is so cheap, half of a lot of other stuff, I've gotten no duds out of 80 rounds and the dirtiness is not a big deal. I miss the golden bear which they stopped making, but this is just as good."

"I had doubts about shooting this through my AR and I was right. First round wouldn't extract!! after racking the bolt several times it caught and came out. The whole point of me shooting was to get the gun hot and 115 rounds later that's when it started back. The round didn't extract and after racking the bolt, it caught and then locked up my charging handle. After the gun had cooled when I got home I took a wedge, a hammer, and knocked the handle loose, which extracted the shell. I had heard time and time again that once steel case ammo gets hot it will stick, and I found out the hard way. Again it shot and that's all I wanted from it but minus the jamming my gun up completely!!"

"I ordered 500 rounds thinking I was just getting some cheap stuff to shoot off at the range. I must say I was surprised by how well it fired. I did not have any jams in my Stag or my Olympic Arms. I had an entire ammo can full, and while I was still shooting everyone was running out of ammo. I even sold 5 boxes while I was there to people who were shooting. I made some of my money back that I paid for the ammo. I didn't tell them I paid half that price for a box. As far as it being "Dirty Ammo", I have put well over 5000 rounds through my rifles. There is really no difference as long as you maintain a clean rifle. You will do the same cleaning you always do after a day at the range."

"I purchased 200 rounds last month just to try them out. I shot those up pretty quick. I would and will order them again. I did not find them to be any more dirty than the Federals and Black Hills stuff I have shot through it. It is a different kind of dirty though. The residue seemed more dry and sooty than the "good" stuff."

AFTER I SAID TO A BUDDY HOW ACCURATE HOW CHEAP AND HOW RELIABLE IT IS FOR SUCH A AFFORDABLE PRICE. THE RING AT THE END OF THE CASE BROKE SO IT WOULD NOT EJECT. "I have a DPMS ar15 and I have shot both Brown Bear and Silver Bear .223 and I did not have any issues with either. I prefer the Silver Bear since there is no lacquer coating. The Zinc coating is absorbed in the metal so no worries of globbing up the gun with lacquer residue. I have not yet experience any issues with this ammo YET. I mainly use it for range shooting and worked great so far."

"I fired 200 rounds over 2 hours through a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 T with 0 failures, and the rifle hadn't been cleaned since previously firing ~200 rounds. Again, no FTE, FTF, or other issues. I can't comment on precision since it was used for close-range quick-action tactical drills. It's dirty ammo, but far from filthy. Also can't comment on if the non-brass casing overly wears the extractor at this point, but I think the cost of an extractor is overshadowed by the savings on ammo. Bottom line, excellent ammunition for the money and will buy more."

"I have 2 Colts, an 1970's M16 converted to semi-auto, and a new Colt LE6940 Mono M4 style AR. Both love and shoot steel and brass cased ammo with zero failures over thousands of rounds. So, really it doesn't make sense to spend a lot of money when they shoot anything. TULA is my go to plinking ammo, because it shoots great and is super cheap and I don't have to pick up casings. But this Silver Bear is the most accurate of the cheap loads. My best shooting group is tacked up on my wall and is with this ammo. Is it as hot as LC? No. Is it as cheap as TULA? No. But it is consistent and accurate. In fact, (in my guns anyway) you won't get more accurate ammo, unless you go super, super expensive or roll your own. The hollow point definitely opens up faster than FMJ as my wood targets get torn up more by this than FMJ that just seem to pass through. And I do not mean keyholed. I'm not a hunter, so I can't tell you more than that on ballistics. But for cheap, accurate ammo, I think this is the best round I've seen."

"I purchased 1000 rds of this ammo to see how it would function in a transferable M16. I dumped all 1000 rounds and had no FTF or FTE. The ammo is a wee bit dirty but that's what solvent is for. It is fairly accurate for plinking ammo. I shot my rifle both on semi and full auto and there were no issues. So, if you are looking for inexpensive ammo to plink with then get some. CPT C."

"AWESOME ammo for the price. Reliability is second-to-none, considering it's cheap and it's steel cased. The ONLY time I've had a jam was when I fired it through my BRAND NEW Bushmaster M4 right out of the box. After a thorough cleaning of the weapon, not one jam so far. I would buy this by the scores of boxes if I had the cash. GREAT ammo for the cost."

"".223" may be what's printed on the box, but Russians use the Metric system so make darn sure you have a 5.56mm chamber. This stuff is candy for piston driven ARs. Out of a 1:9 twist 16" barrel, it gave me consistent hits at 200 & 300yds on 8" targets."

This rifle has a 1-7 twist for those who need that information. Locked & loaded up at the 225 yard rage and went through the 400 rounds in just a little over 6 hours. Out of the 400 rounds I had three miss fires and two stove pipes. Accuracy at the 225 yard range on a target lets say approximately ---------- 6' tall by 20" wide is more then acceptable."

"I dont care how cheap this ammo is...I shoot less than 3/4 inch groups at 100yds with my Bushmaster ES-15 with a 3X9 scope mounted on it. It is almost like a video game...put the crosshairs on it and it has a hole in it...I picked up a Savage Edge last week, almost the same results...just better. Several 1/2 groups at 100yds, most of the time the holes are touching each other...Coyotes beware! I will order more next week."

"Good ammo, great price. I did some reasearch before I tried it on my new RRA M4. I used it to tune my scope. 10 out of 10 shots it hit my 2-inch (100 yards) target with all holes grouped together. Shot +300 rds, no missfires, no jams, just clean your rifle after use!"

"I bought six hundred rounds based on the reviews but I'm afraid I should have spent my money elsewhere. I have only shot 120rds so far through my DPMS and they all went bang but the consistency and grouping at 100yrds is pretty poor in my book. Maybe I'm just too picky. The best grouping I got was right at 6 inches at 100yrds with ten shots. My gun doesnt like cheap ammo though the first round I shot didn't cycle the next and that was pretty consistent. I probably won't buy any more."

"So I have shot the Brown Bear .223 ammo out of my RRA AR and it was fine, just a little dirty. So I saw the Silver Bear and gave this a shot being that I have shot Bear ammo before and the reviews were pretty consistent. I bought 500 rounds and haven't had a single problem. For the money, it is definitely worth it to just shoot around at the range. Will be buying another 1,000 come payday. Highly recommend if finances are tight."

"Shot 100 rounds in my Bushmaster, they do not like feeding on the right feed ramp, the hollow point is blunt and soft causing it to catch and deform. No fail to fires, but a very dirty ammo, accuracy was fair, perfect for breaking in a rifle, but not anything I would take hunting or for anything beyond plinking. Spent the better part of the afternoon cleaning from just a few magazines worth. On the other hand definite improvement over the lacquer or polymer covered cases."

"I have been very reluctant to purchase this ammo because of mixed reviews here and on other sites. I have read about FTF, FTE, how dirty it is, poor grouping, etc... I've also read that if this particular ammo experiences any contact with moisture, the zinc coating would come off. However, I really like 62gr bullets, especially hollow points, for my Kel-Tec PLR16. I decided to purchase 80 rounds of this ammo as a test. For the price, I had nothing to lose. I did not set my expectations very high but must say, by the end of the hour, I decided I liked this ammo alot. I sunk 5 rounds in a mason jar full of hot water, shaking them up pretty good & letting them remain in the water for about 45 minutes. I removed them and rubbed them visciously together and in random between my fingers and thumbs; nothing came off & the rounds fired. I did notice some inconsistency in the pattern grouping but, this is a 9.2 inch barrel were talking about, and I am still getting 3.5 inch groups at 100yds with FUIS. My grouping was much more consistent with the flash suppressor removed. I mentioned this to an ammo tech at Federal & he said flash suppressors will indeed cause varying results, especially with HP's of any grain/make. So, I replaced the ventilated flash suppressor with the factory supplied thread protector and fired off 5 Federal match grade rounds at a 100 yard target. Grouped 3.25 inches. Fired 5 rounds of PMC 55gr; same result. Fired 5 rounds Winchester; same group. Fired 5 rounds of the Silver Bear; same grouping. I have since ordered and fired 300 rounds & experienced no FTE's or FTF's. I find the ammo to be no dirtier than Federal's Lake City or PMC's bronze load. Obviously, these are not reloadable, but since I do not reload anyway, that is not a consideration for me. We loaded a few rounds in a RRA factory mag and had three FTL's out of six rounds. We used one of my el cheapo USGI issue mags w/a magpul follower and the RRA cycled all of them flawlessly; similar sc...."

"This ammo has a good price. No question about it. This ammo has speed. No question about it.This ammo has good target and hunting qualities no question about it. However, after a few rounds (60) my Savage Edge 223 (brand new) was in a high state of dirtiness. It took several minutes of my time with cloth and solvent, plus hard work, to clean the rifle. In the end, the effort might be right with the price since it is very affordable. Hey, nothing is free, fellas."

"I purchased 300 rounds to see how it would run through my gas piston AR that I built from all sorts of parts. The stuff ran great and since I run a gas piston system, it didn't dirty up the bolt carrier group. The ammo was very accurate out to the 100 yards with iron sights. I am buying 1,000 more for a rainy day."

"I have a PWA Commando AR-15 that does not cycle consistantly with the Silver Bear .223 ammo. This weapon is stamped 5.56 mm. While at the range another guy arrived with a near new Armalite AR-15 (very nice weapon) also for 5.56 mm. He tried some of the Silver Bear in it and also had cycling problems; one in 3 or 4 rounds would cycle the weapon properly, about the same as mine. Later a shooter with a Mini 14 arrived and he also tried a few rounds in the Mini 14 which was a .223, it cycled every round. So I gave him the rest of the box.I don't think the Silver Bear is loaded hot enough to be consistent with all carbines. Lesson learned, even if its on sale its money lost if you cant use it in your weapon. So Im going to test ALL ammo before I buy more than 1 box."

"I have to say this Russian ammo is much better and cleaner than the cheaper Ulyanovsk FMJ 55 Grain Ammo. I had bought 250 rounds of Ulyanovsk FMJ 55 Grain ammo for my Sig Sauer 556 and out of 3 rounds of fire I had several FTE's (failure to eject) and 1 spent cartridge jammed in the barrel and I had to use a rod and hammer to remove it. This ammo is much better. I've shot over 400 rounds already and have had no problems whatsoever. My Sig 556 just eats this ammo up and burps accordingly! Thank you, CTD!"

"I tried this stuff out, comparing it with a lot of other 62gr+ ammo here on cheaper than dirt. I'm amazed at how well this stuff groups at 100yd and how accurate it is out to 200/300, for as cheap as it is. My LWRC with 1:7 twist doesn't really like the 55gr rounds and unfortunately most ammo more than 55gr costs a bit more, except for Silver Bear. My M6A3 loves it and will shoot it all day... My only complaint is that it's a bit dirty, but I guess if you've got a piston based AR, you've just got to clean the usual places... Haven't fired it through a DI .223, so not sure how much it messes up the lower. Either way, I've never had a single FTF or FTE with this in my rifle, out of ~1,000 rounds of it fired. I usually go between this and the lake city green tip, and both work great. Silver bear is a bit less explosive, but shoots as well."

"I was looking for some "cheap" ammo to plink with. I read the reviews on this on thought I would give it a try. I was not disappointed at all. I shot 200 rounds through my Smith & Wesson M&P 15 without a single misfire. I am ordering more! This stuff can't be beat for the price. "I have had more failed primers on these than I care to think about. I can deal with dirty, steel case, or crappy grouping but when I pull the trigger it had better go bang. There is a butt puckering moment when you have to shuck a round out of the chamber and it has a deep dent in the center of the primer. I guess I'll pay more and get something I know will go bang next time."

"This ammo cannot be beat for the price. It is far superior to the wolf i have shot as well as some of the brown bear i have shot. I have shot hundreds of rounds now and they all have fed and functioned flawlessly. I have fired it through pmags as well as aluminum gi mags with no problems. Yes it runs a little dirty but not overly so. Clean your gun like you should already be doing is the moral of the story."

"Not bad ammo, good groups at 100 mtrs, however I noticed that alot of the steel cases' were spliting down the neck of the case when I was picking up my brass at the range. I know it's non-reloadable, so thats not the point, but I thought this might cause an eventual eject/feed failure, and I would have a busted case jammed in the chamber. Cheers"

"Cycles well in a Bushmaster with a 16" Barrel. No FTF or FTE after 180 rounds. It ran so well I decide to do a test. I ran 30 rounds of M855 through a clean AR-15 and then 120 rounds of Silver Bear right after. Most of us know that this is where cheap ammunition will fail, and this is the case with Silver Bear just as it is with wolf. The first 7 rounds failed to feed! It was a mess, but then the remaining 113 rounds fired without a problem. Just goes to show that shooting brass before shooting lacquered ammo or Silver Bear is a bad idea."

"I have shot 1500 rounds thru a Bushmaster A2. I had only 1 FTE. All I did was re-charge the rifle and kept shooting. This ammo is not very dirty and cleans up easily. Accuracy: I went to the range with 50 Remington rounds (AMM-52783) and I was having issues getting 2" clusters at 50 yards. "Tested 60 rds out of a box stock 16" (1:7 twist) Colt AR-15. Sub 2" 100YD groups all day long. Groups fired using an 11yr old 3 MOA Aimpoint. Would be even tighter with magnification. A couple of other things. 1) Keep it in the original boxes until ready to shoot. The little paper dividers in the 20rd boxes protect the lacquer finish covering the steel case. Don't stripper it up or toss it loose in an ammo can. Both will damage the lacquer and invite corrosion. 2) Keep the bolt/carrier "wet" with a quality oil. Attended a rifle school last month (put on my some very high-speed guys) and shot up 1000+ rounds of the 55 gr Brown Bear w/o a single "burp". I learned (and saw 1st hand) that 90% of failures blamed on bad ammo are caused by under lubricated guns. When I asked for clarification on how much lubrication, the reply was "1 step below dripping"."

"This ammo runs great out of my CMMG gas piston upper with a HB. I get about a 2 inch group at 50 yards with an aimpoint and 4 to 5 inches at 100 yards with a 3 x 9 scope. I'm not an ace on the range either. Basically, it shoots as good as can be expected with the gear I run. I prefer brass but this is a good alternative to plink with. It also puts the hammer down on deer at close range here in NC (deer are the size of rodents here)."

"I bought a box of 20 to see how they would feed/shoot. Needless to say I fired the first two shots perfectly fine, but then the 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds all jammed. Then no more rounds would feed after those three rounds, and yes I do clean my gun often so that is not the problem. I was using my S&W M&P15 with P-Mags. I would suggest doing what I did and order a box to see how it shoots before I would buy in bulk."
