|I tried this filter out the day I got it at my local creek after I cleared out the ceramic dust inside - you must pump water through it before you try it out. The creek feeds into a lake (the lake is really nasty and gunky). So I went to a nearby rock clearing where it was pretty shallow and found a foot deep area. I filled up a water bottle with unfiltered creek water and it looked clear, you could see some particles floating around. I then took another water bottle and used the Katadyn to fill it up' it came out much clearer and the water had nothing moving around in it. I was impressed at the difference in what this filter did with the water. Then came the do or die moment...I decided to be the guinea pig after reading the reviews here and I tasted the water. It had a good taste, but water shouldn't taste much like anything. There was no real smell, and it wasn't a stale taste. I drank a quarter of the water bottle and I felt fine the rest of the day - even the next day no diarrhea, no sickness, I was healthy. I used it again three days later and drank an entire bottle of water from the Katadyn, three girls with me tasted the water and said it was almost fruity and had a good taste. They seem to be fine also, no reports on being sick.
My only complaint about this product (I gave it 5 stars because I'm alive, and it's a rad filter - can't beat the price for a lifetime use) is that the video here says use chlorinated water to filter it but the directions in the box just say scrub the filter. There needs to be a more clear way to explain the PROPER way to clean the Katadyn Pocket so you can extend the life of this product. I recommend cleaning it after every trip, don't let it gunk up. Well done CTD on selling this product for Katadyn! Finishing statements. I'm still alive, that's what matters.|
