|Received this upper and was impressed with how good it looked. I excitedly attached it to a new DPMS lower, mounted a Leupold 1.5-5x scope with a Burris PEPR mount and went to the range. During manufacturer-recommended break-in (fire 1, clean, repeat and so forth) POI seemed erratic. Even at my break-in distance of only 50 yards, 5-shot "groups" were 5" or more. Fit of upper to lower was a bit loose, so I tightened it up with a DPMS accurizing wedge (very tight after, but almost no improvement in accuracy).
After firing more rounds than I probably should have wasted, and finding no visible problems with the weapon, I tried out my DPMS LR-308 & Bushmaster 5.56 for comparison, just to be sure I wasn't having the worst shooting day of my life. After shooting the bullseye out of the target with these 2 weapons, I contacted CTD customer service.
CTD customer service told me the used upper wasn't returnable to them, and recommended that I contact JSE direct. Fair enough; JSE issued an RMA for the return of the upper. After a time, JSE advised me that they experienced results similar to mine but were unable to determine the reason for the inaccuracy. JSE said they re-barreled the upper and sent the original barrel off for further analysis. OK, even good things can be bad sometimes; I'm again excited.
When I got the upper back I assembled the weapon as before. I was truly disappointed to find accuracy only marginally improved (4" groups @ 50 yds), which I believe is completely unacceptable even for a low end AR. JSE then contacted CTD and made an arrangement allowing me to return the upper to CTD for a refund. CTD customer service was top-notch. JSE's seemed good too, although I don't know why the re-barreled upper wasn't much better than the original.
I still don't understand what was wrong with this positively-reviewed (by others) JSE upper, but knowing my results with other weapons, before and since, I'm confident the problem wasn't with me.|
