3.0 Rating Functional, but not outstanding - 6/13/2014

This gun is accurate and will do the job, and for the price out the door, it's tough not to see value in it. However, if you've been spoiled by Thompson as I have, you will certainly see differences in the quality. I've had two of these now, thanks to returning the first due to poor workmanship. Wood-to-metal fit is pretty good, but both of my guns have had at least one wood-metal fit issue. The brass work had some significant gouges in it (both guns), and the patch box did on the first. I've come to realize on the trigger guard that it must be the foundry mold, because the same marks exist on both guns (and yes, it is a different gun they sent back...I can tell by other features and marks on the wood and metal, not to mention serial number). The barrel had been gouged on both sides by the forearm brass on both guns...they just don't file out the width of the brass enough before pressing the barrel in place. Again, maybe a mold issue for the brass with no custom fitting at assembly. After already missing late muzzleloader from sending the first gun back, I carefully filed out the gap a bit myself on gun #2 and blued the bare metal. The trigger is pretty crisp and seems to work well, but it sits crooked in the gun(it's off-center to the right...both guns). Be careful when pulling the hammer to full-cock!!! If you don't hear two clicks at full cock (listen at half-cock, two clicks very close together at the full position), the hammer WILL drop on its own!!! Obviously, this is a very serious safety issue if you're trying to silently ready the gun for firing at a deer. The ramrod rib has gaps between the rib and barrel (you can see light through the gaps) that will trap water if wet...that's a problem. I bought the gun to try a cap lock and possibly use for inclement weather. Nice adjustable rear sights, seems to be about 1"/click at 100 for the vertical. The gun will certainly work and it shoots well. Just realize it's a matter of "get what you pay for" when compared to some others. Worth the value for half the price of a Thompson? Yes
