5.0 Rating Very satisfied with Bodyguard .380 - 5/5/2012

Just picked this up today (5/4/2012). Thank you CTD! This gun is excellent, quality construction. The slide lock on an empty mag was a must have for me. I didn’t see this feature on any others in this class. For the price (very well done CTD), nothing else compares. The laser was very accurate out of the box. At 15 feet, I shot groups of <2 inches, many through previous holes in the target. The iron sites are excellent, but white dots would help. The long trigger pull was very manageable because it feels like it stages right before firing, so it’s predicable. I had the feel of it on the first mag. Also, it does add some safety for Condition 1 carriers (No Condition 0, double action only, so you can’t carry with the hammer cocked back). Out of the box, I shot 155 rounds with 0 malfunctions. Used Hornady Critical Defense and Winchester. Laser button on the grip would be easier to engage but would also add to the thickness of the trigger guard making the actual usable grip length shorter. Not a lot of real estate on a .380 handle. The laser has an auto-off 5 minute timer; great feature if accidentally left on to save the batteries (would be nice to have that on my Streamlight TLR-2). The Bodyguard does have a manual safety. I may use it at times, but I have the option to leave it off as needed. All of the side switches are low profile and the molded polymer frame has tapering around the controls to allow easy in and out of a holster or pocket. Before buying the BG, I rented the BG .380 and a Ruger LCP to test both side-by-side. The Ruger is a fine gun, but the BG .380 feels more solid, has much better sights, has a tighter fit and finish, and as mentioned above, has the slide lock on empty mag. Also, the BG is slightly more expensive with a laser than the LCP is without a laser. I saw that as a small amount more for a very decent integrated laser. Field stripping is easy and no tools are needed. S&W warranty is excellent. I hope this helps. Enjoy!
