|Let me start by saying NOT ALL AR's ARE CREATED EQUALLY! So to start, I have an H&K MR556A1, which does NOT use a 1/16 roll pin (more on that in a minute), however removing the roll pin was relatively easy once I turned down one of my punches to about 3/32 on my lathe. The pin came out nice and easy and the spring was no trouble using the old ziploc bag method.
Then I discovered the inside clearance of the charging handle was a few thousandths too small, just took a fine grit file and slowly etched away at the latch until I had an easy fit.
Now back to the roll pin, I discovered that the hole in the latch was too small so again using a 3/32 drill and then rolling it around the edge to widen it slightly (probably would be best to use a 2/16 drill).
After all that work I just set the punch through the assembly and then set the roll pin on the other side and gently tapped it back in until it was flush.
For the people complaining about ruining their roll pins USE A BRASS PUNCH, and you can avoid that problem.
All in all this latch was a little bit of trouble to get installed but was well worthwhile in the end.|
