|This thing is great! After I got mine in the mail I opened/closed it about 1000 times while watching a movie (gotta loosen it up a bit), and then I just started walking about the house finding stuff to fix. Without listing and reviewing every function of the tool, let me just say that the functions are all nicely put together, and well thought out.
It should be noted that the picture displayed is the earlier model wave (pre-2004) and CTD is advertising the newer Wave. The biggest difference is that the new Wave has 2 removable, reversible bits. One very tiny one for eyeglasses and such, and one normal sized one. Both bits have a philips and a flathead end so you can take it out and swap it around to use the other end. You can also buy additional bits to fit in the tool. Only specially made Leatherman bits will fit. The sheath has a built in extra pocket to carry extra bits or possibly another very small item, such as a firesteel.
The tool is too heavy and bulky to be carried in your pocket. If you want to carry this tool on your person you will have to use the sheath provided. However the sheath provided is very nice and comfortable, seems to be made of durable material, and will hold the tool in either the open or the closed position. Storing it open looks like a "V", where the needle-nose pliers poke down through a little hole in the bottom of the sheath. I carry the tool on my belt and after a few minutes I hardly notice it's there.
After having this tool only a short time it became like an extension of my arm. I use it all day long and I really don't know how I got along without it before. I will have to travel on a plane soon and I expect I will probably feel naked for the few hours I have to check this with my baggage.. Yeah, its that handy!|
