||Awesome Addition To My AR - 10/7/2010|
|This is the only laser I've ever owned, so I'm not exactly an expert, but in my opinion it's worth the price. The construction seems very solid, casing, battery cap and windage/elevation adjustment covers are all aluminum while the rear cap where the activation switch and plug for the pressure switch plugs in is heavy duty plastic. The power switch positions and plug location for the pressure sensor are very clearly labeled and idiot proof.
As for performance, this laser is very bright and daylight visable as advertised out to about 100 yards but not with the naked eye. You need a spotter scope to see the dot at that range. Actual naked eye visibility out of direct sunlight is about 25 yards max. In direct sunlight it's about half that. Still impressive considering the housing rates the laser's output at <5mW and more then enough for what a laser is meant for, which is fast close range target aquisition.
I own a DPMS Lite 16 with a Magpul MOE Handguard. Took about 10 minutes to mount to the top of the handguard (12 o'clock position). I chose to mount the laser as far back towards the carry handle as possible so as to A: Keep the laser lens away from the barrel to prevent soot getting on it and B: to keep the rifle from becoming barrel heavy. Took about 10 minutes to take my handguard off, install a 3" rail (purchased seperatly this laser DOES NOT come with a rail) then put it all back together and mount the laser with supplied allen wrench. I chose not to use the pressure switch.
Sighting took about 10 rounds. Put the laser on the bullseye, fired a round, looked where the bullet went, adjust windage/elevation, repeat.
All in all, a really fun product. I was basically just looking for something to have fun with at the range (I can shoot from the hip rapid fire now and actually hit the broad side of a barn haha) and this does the job while looking great. Costs a little more then some of the other lasers I've seen but I think it's worth it.|
