On a flat top for 50MM scope i have used high one inch rings CTD part #SCP-608. For 56MM scope use 1.5 pair (3 rings) extra high rings CTD part # 40957, this will mount the scope well..

These are EXCELENT rings. The only dificulty i had was keeping the crosshairs level when i tightend the rings on the scope. Otherwise it is extremely strong.

Just got my set in, to mount a 50mm objective scope (also by this company) to a flat topped rifle. They're a bit too short, it takes a little wiggling to get it to *almost* seat, if I plan to never use a cap or flip top cover. Id have given them a higher rating except that they *do not* work with a 50mm objective like the package claims, but they're good enough that I'm ordering the "High" set. Im just a bit disappointed by the unnecessary delay. Plus side, besides ease of installation, obvious durability, and industrial strength looks, was the inclusion of a spare allen screw in case one was lost. These rings will work perfectly for a 40mm objective with scope covers, or a rifle who's top rail is short enough so the objective can hang but I'd avoid that if possible,
