Beginning in 2002 the U.S. Department of Defense came up with a solution to get as many capable troops on the ground as quickly as possible no matter what the battlefield scenario. This solution goes by the name of Rapid Fielding Initiative (RFI).

The U.S.G.I. MOLLE assault pack in ACU pattern camouflage was just one of the possible 73 pieces of approved gear that could be issued depending on the mission.

The assault packs were issued for all missions where enemy contact was inevitable or for offensive operations. We secured a small number of these assault packs in new, never issued condition in ACU pattern camo constructed of heavy denier nylon.

Features include, but are not limited to:
*Oversized, self healing zipper on the primary and secondary compartments
*Primary compartment measures: 18" X 13"
*Secondary compartment measures: 12" X 9"
*Metal Drain holes in all compartments
*Small utility pocket with hook and loop closure
*Small utility pocket measures: 6.5" X 8"
*Flexible plastic internal back support with pad for moisture and shock absorption
*Top slot for communication cables or hydration tubes
*Heavy duty ITW Nexus/Foster adjustable buckles
*Nexus Quick Release Buckles on both shoulder straps
*Waist and chest strap
*Heavy duty 1" wide nylon webbing
*Heavily reinforced carry or emergency drag handle on top of main compartment
*Approved for airborne operations
This well thought out assault pack was made to last for years and years of rugged service and has been overbuilt and overdesigned in every way.

Built tough. While it looks a little small when you take it out of the box, it's got quite a bit of room. Straps are minimal - no padding. So long as you don't have too much weight shouldn't be a problem. I use it daily as a go bag in the car.

This really is a great piece of gear. It's not as big as I expected it to be. It's probably about the size of a standard backpack but its built to last.Extremely rugged and can take a real beating. I use it every time I go camping and would recommend it to anyone.
