1.0 Rating Side Plate Holders - 8/25/2009

Order the vest some time last week anticipating that all my military E-SAPI plates would fit. Unfortunately, they didn’t... front and back fit perfect. However, the side plates would not. Not sure if I just received a bad stitching Plate Carrier or what. Good Luck to the rest that try.

4.0 Rating Pretty good - 8/26/2009

Don't think you can beat it really for the price. I can't give it all 5 bullets because it has some issues. I'm 6'4" and well built @ 212 lbs. THE POSTITIVES: It holds my front and back 10x12" LVL IV+ hard ceramic armor plates very well. Each plate weighs 8 lbs. The flaps for each compartment are adjustable height wise to work for a better fit for different plate sizes and shapes. These plates are triple curved and huge my torso very well. The shoulder straps have hook and loop fastenings to allow for some adjustment of where the pads rest on you to move your armor to cover your vitals better / be more comfortable for weight under load out. THE NEGATIVES: The elastic cummberbund could be improved. It is tolerable for what I am calling a budget carrier, but it isn't all impressive (more on this in a bit). Some of the MOLLE web loops towards the edges of some rows are not full inches and can be harder to work with. Over all webbing stitching seems to be on par or better than one may expect. The side armor pockets DID NOT HOLD 6x8" LVL 4 + hard armor. The pockets were wide enough but the hook and loop closure were too short in that they would not go up the outside (facing away from torso) and sufficiently down the inside (touching torso) to get a good grip to close the pocket. This could be modified with adding female velcro to the flap that has a male side sewn facing the other way to attach to the female side down inside on the pocket. More on the cumberbund now: since the original pockets would not accommodate my side armor, I used external mounting pouches to do the job. The cumberbund may sag some with this side weight when not worn but will ride appropriately level when donned for use. Overall I think this is a very good buy for the money, for carrying in the area of 30 lbs. of anti-AP armor, 6 pistol mags, one of my side arms, and a host of other gear, it is VERY comfortable. As I said there are some small, problems, but definitely a good buy.

4.0 Rating Good Carrier - 11/6/2009

This is a great carrier. I've been humping this thing around Afghanistan for a little while now and the side plates DO indeed fit inside the pockets for them on the inside of the carrier. There is a little fold out velcro strip on the inside of the pocket that you have to pull out to attach it and it is a good hold. The guys that say there isn't just dont know their gear. I would recommend this plate carrier to ANYONE coming to Northern Afghanistan as the issued armor is WAY too heavy and will wind up crippling you within months.

3.0 Rating ACU Plate Carrier - 5/5/2010
Reviewer: SPC
The vest is cool for the price. However, the soft ballistic inserts do not fit. No Biggie if you're not worried about shrapnel. I am very slender and I have a long torso, so this vest doesn't really fit the way it should. It wasn't as adjustable as I thought, but it is very lightweight compared to the IOTV. Which makes sense because the IOTV has more protection. Wearing this vest is so much better than the issued vest in the weight arena. My old vest was very bulky and would leave me with some very sore traps, lol. I'll have to see how long I get away with wearing this vest before someone says I'm not allowed to wear it. Suggestions: The side plate carriers need more adjustments as do the shoulder straps. It would be nice if they had different sizes.
