NBC FILTER CANISTER TYPE 80

The Type 80 filter canister was developed for the Israel Defense Force (IDF) to provide Protection against all known NBC agents in the form of vapors and aerosols. It is Supplied as an integral part of all Shalon's personal respiratory protection systems. The Type 80 is a robust durable canister intended for military and civil defense use. It is specially designed for comfort and extended use at a minimal physiological load, having low breathing resistance and low weight. Its design assures optimal performance complying with all IDF specifications as well as the performance requirements of the American Army C2 filter canister. The filter is supplied with a standard NATO thread (40 mm x 1/7") and is thus compatible with almost all military and industrial respirators. The Type 80 filters are supplied sealed with leak-proof plastic caps, assuring a shelf life exceeding 15 years.

The production of Type 80 filter canisters is controlled by rigorous quality assurance tests and procedures. Each filter canister is tested in the production line for air flow resistance, aerosol penetration, leakage and workmanship, and cannot leave the factory without passing all these tests. In addition, Shalon's QA laboratories perform gas-life tests (cyanogens chloride, DMMP, chloropicrin, phosgene, HCN) on charcoal samples from each drum and on completed canisters sampled from each production lot.

Bought 3 of these and just had to open one to try it out. It was a pain cutting it open, and in an emergency that could be a problem, however it extends the shelf life. Works great on my M15 Isreali military issue gas mask. I want some black ones so they match well, but thats a petty issue.

OK so I got 6 of these things to go with my Czech cm4 and they fit and seal nicely. They are easy to breathe through but are a pain to open. I have no idea how old they are because they have no date on them. These filters will do well for what I want and I don't mind using a little elbow grease. BTW they are Swiss made.

Translation for package: NBC-protection filter 74- 74 may be prodution year. Do not open until mobilized for war. On side- cut open here bla bla bla dont cut self. Overall good packaging. I'm not going to open untill emergency but if needed, and if I survive I'll write a review of which of my friends lived the longest, haha. 1 has the Finnish mask, 1 has the Czec and I have an M-15 Israeli now with 3 filters. Wish I could find the canteen 4 it though.

These are a great price, but DO NOT OPEN THEM UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO USE THEM. Opening the outer shell will expose the activated carbon to air which will dramatically reduce the shelf life. These filters are of course well past expiration but will still filter out Nuclear fallout, simple Anthrax, etc. More complex NBC scenarios require a brand new filter, but they are a waste of money if you are only using your filters for Nuclear fallout or CS or Mace. I was so impressed with my initial order of 6(18) that I ordered another large set for my family. California is past due for an earthquake, what sort of protection do you have?

After reviewing several of the other "reviews" of this product, and taking their advice..I found these were rather easy to open (the 'egg' the filters came in). i simply used my dremel tool..and cut along the seam. Popped all three open in just a minute or two. Agreed, they are very tightly secured shut, and cutting does seem to be the only method to open them, but if you use a dremel or similar device, you should have no problem opening them. Now, someone earlier addressed the issue of "What if you had to open in an emergency?" Also, if they are already opened, will they be as effective. Here is my solution, if anyone is interested. I opened mine with the dremel as previously stated. Once opened, I sanded down the edges of the cut on the 'egg' to smooth it out. Then I placed the filter back inside, and closed the 'egg' back up, then sealed the 'egg' with PLASTIC box tape (NOT duct tape). Then, I placed each 'egg' inside a vacuum sealed bag using my "food saver" vacuum sealer and bags to seal them in an O2 free environment. If (Heaven forbid) I ever do need these in an emergency, they are sealed fresh and unused, but now, very easily opened to get onto a mask. Hope this helps.
