While in Iraq, our unit was in desperate need for an upper and lower bench block and the Army's estimated delivery was 4 months. So we ordered the DPMS upper and the lower block and they did their job flawlessly. Thank you DPMS and thank you Cheaper Than Dirt!

This is a great tool to secure your AR-15 in your vise. As other reviews have mentioned, I did have to Dremel out a groove in the top of the side that holds the upper for the gas tube. It works great for securing the lower unit (in the mag well). It works well for the upper when the modification is made for the gas tube. You may want to consider the ARR-524 for a better alternative to hold the upper. All in all, it works well for both lower and upper.

Works great, and most definitly holds a stripped upper just fine. Granted, you have to either have gas tube removed, or take a dremel to it. Not sure why someone said it only holds a lower by itself?? I drop the entire gun on it in the vice for periodic and general maitenance.

I have been working on ARs for the last few years and this has been the best tool to lock in the lower to the vice. It is made to have the upper taken off and designed only to work on the lower, separately. Others have said that is does not work unless you remove the gas tube. That is the incorrect use of the product. The purpose of the block is to work on the lower detached from the upper. If you need to work on the upper then get the dedicated block for it (sold on CTD, item: ARR-524)

I ordered this to change out my barrel and put a free float rail system on my rifle. Fits fine on the lower, but not good on the upper. You have to remove the gas tube to get the upper to fit on it properly. When I tried to get the barrel nut off, the block started to crack. I barely got the nut off, but finally did. Would not reccomend this at all.

This tool does half of what it says it will do. It locks into the lower reciever just fine (but takes a bit of force to get it back out) but has a critical flaw. It will not mount in the upper receiver unless your gas tube is removed. There is no cutout for the gas tube in the upper receiver mount. So either cut it out yourself or remove your gas tube if you want to use this on your upper receiver...
