The Vltor Modular Upper Receiver or MUR is forged out of 7075 aircraft grade aluminum that has been stress relieved, heat treated, and then cryogenically treated. This, along with the thicker walls of the receiver, makes the MUR stronger and more rigid than a standard billet flat-top upper, and with the forward assist deleted it weighs in at only 8 ounces. Including the forward assist it weighs slightly more at 10 ounces. The greater strength and rigidity of the MUR gives the shooter a more accurate and reliable platform while reducing wear and tear on the bolt carrier. Available with or without a forward assist.

This is w/out a doubt the best upper to be had. I started using the MUR w/the FA, but switched to using the MUR w/out the FA on my last couple of builds. Both are over built, show GREAT machining and anodizing, are reinforced and designed as flat-tops (unlike most other mil-spec flat-tops, which were never intended to have all that weight hanging off them w/out the benefit of a carry handle forged into the design to strengthen it). The FA for me isn't required. I just use the index finger of my off hand to pull the bolt forward or check to see if it is seated. IMHO, a FA can't do anything I can't do without it, except perhaps drive the BCG ahead w/enough force to really bind things up. If you can't pull the BCG ahead with your finger, you need to clear it. Anyway, this is the only upper I use and the only one I recommend to all my buddies. It is a little more money, But the upper, bbl, trigger, and optic are the four parts of your AR that you need to invest in quality parts for. Pretty much everything else is cosmetic as long as it's mil-spec or better.
