Like other reviewers said, I would not trust this ammunition to drop any large game. I am judging this based on recoil alone. Although this method of observation is less than scientific, I have shot high quality hand loaded hunting rounds which perform (and recoil) like a 44 mag. This ammo cannot compare. It's reasonably accurate, reliable, and fun to shoot. But I would never shoot at a bear, pig, deer, etc. As a backup sidearm, maybe. As home defense, it'd be fine since it's a HP bullet. For the price, it's a bargain but do yourself a favor and purchase real hunting loads if heading to the woods in search of large or dangerous game.

I shot two boxes of this ammo through my Marlin cowboy lever action 24 in bbl. It has the recoil of a crossman pellet gun.. I suspect it may not have the correct powder load? I wouldn't shoot a bear with this as it might piss him off. I also bought several boxes of their 255 gr rnfp ammo which is also supposed to run at 950 fps and it kicks 2 or 3 times harder than this 300 grain ammo which also is rated at 950 fps. A 300gr running at 950 fps should kick considerable compared to a 255gr at 950fps.. I've heard lots of good things about Bitter root ammo but something isn't adding up here IMHO. I won't be buying any more of the 300gr stuff for sure. I'm inclined to believe what another post said, they chronoed it at about 550 fps. Seems milder than cowboy loads for sure.

I found these loads to be accurate and powerful ! A good load for medium range on deer ! The hollow point rapidly expands and hits with great force ! However, the only downside is that sometimes penetration can be more important, when stopping large dangerous game ! So although I believe this to be a great cartridge. In big bear territory, I'd feel better With a cartridge that offers higher weight retention and maximum penetration! In black bear country, this would be an excellent pistol round in a Ruger red or black hawk !

Bought four boxes of this stuff to shoot out of my Henry lever action rifle. Shot three rounds through a chrono. 525, 532 and 550 fps, so not even close to the 950 claim. Round number 4 was a squib and lodged in the barrel. Buyer beware.

This stuff did not shoot well out of a Rossi 92. My friend had the same experience. I was hoping to use this for hunting pigs, but no go.

I bought this ammo for my Judge and I am pleased! If you have one of these guns this is about the best round I have found for it yet. They put one mean dent in 3/16 steel and probably could stop a bear!

I bought this as the "light" load to fire out of my S&W 460ES. I will say that I am becoming very impressed with BVAC ammo. The quality of the ammo is high, with my only negative comment being that it is a little dirtier than others.

bought this ammo to run through my 6 inch judge and to say the least it exceeded expectations. all of the ammo is extremely clean in appearance and does not leave much residue on the gun after firing like alot of the other ammo ive used. i caught the velocity 10 feet from the muzzle at an average of 1010ish feet per second. it gives a good solid kick and penetrated 10 soggy phone books which was well better than my .357 could do. "bear load" is an appropriate description i would say. these are basically jacketed hollow points. i was expecting pointed tip jacketed soft tips so imagine my surprise when they turned out to be hollow points. not a problem since i bought these to plink and they were cheap but i prefer HP's anyway. as a matter of fact i wouldnt mind keeping these in my gun for self defense. with the amount of punch they have and the amount they spread upon contacting a target with human-like texture i think i would trust these. excellent excellent ammo for the price. i bought 3 boxes and shot them all up today. will be buying a case ASAP.
