.38 WC
I own a 1911A1 .38 WC made late '60s. I have shot about 50 of these and have had zero problems. There is a nice kick to them, but I can put them on target time after time at 100 feet. I plan on getting more of them. If anyone wants to sell theirs to me, I'm interested.

I have the same problem as reviewer Wilson who says your Bitterroot 38 special, 148 grain, Wad Cutter won't fit into the magazine. It is about 1/16 inch too long with lead standing up above the casing rather than flush with the top of the casing. My 38 is a 60's vintage and the magazine requires a load that is almost flush with the top of the casing. Does anyone at Cheap As Dirt, at Bitterroot or a gun enthusiast out there know where I can get a 38 Special Wad Cutter that will meet my needs. I'll have to lock this beautiful gun in the closet if I can't find some Ammo to fit. Thanks, Plexman

Having grown up in Missoula (Bitterroot valley of MT), I had high hopes for this ammo - especially since it said "years of experience with guns like the S&W Model 52". Well, a bit of a let down - these won't load into my S&W M52 magazine - the OAL is too long. The bullet protrudes beyond the brass by about 1/8" - too much for the M52 which requires a flush bullet. I'm going to try to seat these deeper with my reloading kit, but I'm not sure what the crimp will do to the bullet as I push them deeper. Otherwise, I have 500 rounds that I'll have to work through in single shot fashion - which doesn't bode well for timed or rapid fire competition......

I bought a box of Remington .38 special +p 125 gr sjhp, a box each of Bitterroot Valley .357 mag 158 gr swc and jhp (which both had nickel Fiocchi casings), and a box of these and went to the range with my new stainless Taurus 617 (4/5 stars for the gun by the way, no buyers remorse). I was shooting the .357 and +p first and did about 20 of each each kind and the gun wasn't too bad as far as cleanliness goes. I then throw some of these in and one of my friends shortly thereafter asked if they were black powder rounds, so there is a definite difference with smoke production from the other 3 kinds of ammo I was using. The gun looked like what I imagine it would have if I had shot the rest of the .357 and p+ ammo out of it after only 14 rounds of this stuff. So 14 rounds of this ammo LOOKED almost as dirty as 100-150 rounds of slightly more expensive ammo, but cleaning it wasn't too bad. If you're shooting on a budget these aren't too bad but I'm sure you can find something not far off in price with a significant reduction in smoke production.

These are dirty rounds over charged for wadcutters, kicked like a mule in my SW J frame. Had to turn on the fan at the range, because I began to choke in the still air on the lingering cloud of smoke from these bullets. I bought 4 boxes traded 2 boxes off.....Cleaned pistol which had been blackened along with my hands...pass these up.

Dirty, dirty, dirty...but accuracy was surprisingly good for wad cutters. Moreover, I did experience misfires...approximately 6 rounds (out of 250) that simply didn't fire. I shoot .38's from a S&W 686+ so misfires are a rarity. My thought is that these are good for cheep ammo in outdoor settings. Otherwise, find something else.

Went to the range with 100 rounds, every single one went bang. Punched clean holes, like it should. A little smokey, but considering the fact that I was indoors and fired 100 rounds that night, why wouldn't it be?

Went to the range today, my wife and I shot about 100 rounds of this ammo. We found it to be accurate and very reliable. No problems at all in a Charter Arms Undercover. It was clean ammo, gun was not filthy as when using other low cost practice ammo. It's priced right and will definitely buy some more. Thanks BVAC.
