When fitted with a Hogue OverMolded stock, your Mini 14/30 will exhibit superior handling characteristics over that of the original stock. Hogue developed the perfect stock by considering what the knowledgeable shooter needs from their Ruger Carbine. The length-of-pull has been extended to 13 5/8" for improved feel and sight picture and the fuller fore-end shape was designed for a more secure and comfortable hold. A gentle ½" drop at heel facilitates fast easy mounting and sight acquisition.

Keeping with the spirit that makes the Mini a great field carbine the stock is carefully styled with smooth pleasing lines and Hogue's Cobblestone texture effectively aids grip in a vast range of environmental conditions. Lastly, the butt is fitted with a moderately soft recoil pad perfectly suited for the recoil of .223 or 7.62 x 39 cal. ammunition. Of course, the standard Ruger barreled action will easily drop-in for a secure, tight fit.

Contrary to what they say the metal fore end would not install as specified and when I called and emailed Hogue nobody ever got back to assist me. Save your money and stick with the factory stock !

After a lot of reading about accuracy improvement for a Mini-30 I decided to get a new stock. This Hogue over-molded stock is stiffer and more substantial than the factory stock. It only took me five minutes to install this stock on my 189-series Mini-30. With the factory stock, 5-shot group sizes with Federal Power-Shok ammo were around 4", with the Hogue stock they are now less than 1.7"! The stock has a very solid and comfortable feel to it. The extra inch or so in length of pull was also quite welcome.

Contrary to what this says, it doesn't fit a 180 serial number. The forend fits too tight and leaves about an 1/8" space between the bolt housing and the stock. Then, it is a really tight fit when you put the trigger housing back in and the bolt slide sticks to the stock not allowing the slide to release back into place fully. You would have to modify the stock to have the slide work correctly. There is no way to put a hand guard on it without modifying the stock here as well. I am sure it works fine for the other serial numbers, but if you have an older model I do not recommend for you to buy this. I am going to call Hogue to see if I did something incorrect. Other than that, I really like Hogue stocks and I would recommend this to anyone with a newer model Mini 14.

I researched a bunch of stocks for my Mini 14 (Butler Creek, Ram-Line, etc) and decided to go with this Hogue for a couple of reasons: 1) Hogues reputation 2) The fact that this stock had a rubber overmold rather than serations on the synthetic material I am REALLY glad I went with the Hogue! I thought the rubber overmold would only apply to the grip areas, but the entire stock has the rubber coating making it really easy to get a good grip. I agree with Paul, this stock is much better than the Ruger factory stock. Much sturdier, more solid feel. The ONLY think that I didn't like is that when installing the interior metal heat shield from the factory synthetic stock on the Hogue stock, I could not get it to "Snap" into place. It fit rather loosely, but seems to work fine. This is the only reason I didn't rate this stock a 5 instead of 4. Installation was super easy, and accomodates the factory Ruger hand guard (my Mini 14 serial number begins with 196, Hogue says that this stock does not fit pre- 180 serial numbers). One more thing: Cheaper Than Dirt has the best price I could find (easily $15 to $20 cheaper than most other sites). All in all a great upgrade for the Mni at a great price!
