Practice makes perfect and that's why range time is important. But practicing with quality hardware without quality ammunition makes about as much sense as kicking a junk-yard dog when he's sleeping. I shoot for fun and relaxation with matching .45 cal single action Ruger Vaquero revolvers...chosen for their reliability, safety, and rugged classic "old west" design. Authenticity is an important consideration for me in Cowboy action shooting and I've never regreted choosing Ruger Vaqueros - and not just for look and feel - but for their safety and superior reliability and accuracy. Likewise, the ammunition I've come to rely on for both authenticity and accuracy has been Hornady's Frontier cartridges...what else would you expect from a company born and raised in the heart of Cowboy Country? Authenticity is a strict requirement for Hornady's Frontier Cartridges and what sets them apart from other Cowboy cartridges apart is the Hornady Cowboy bullet design. The special knurling system holds an even distribution of lubricating wax over the entire bearing surface. A grease ring at the rear of the bullet catches the wax as the bullet travels through the barrel. The result is significantly less leading in your barrel than with cast bullets and ordinary grease grooves. Hornady's .45 Long Colt's authentic flat-point design improves accuracy by moving the center of gravity back, while also ensuring proper positioning within authentic revolvers; critical in the prevention of unwanted primer nicking as the revolver's magazine rotates between the shots. Packed with 255 grains of powder, Hornady's Frontier bullets generate kind the velocity and energy that I'm looking for...small wonder that Hornady has been awarded "Ammunition of the Year" for the 4th Consecutive Year by the Academy of Excellence!
