1.0 Rating Rem 597 HTB - 12/11/2012
Reviewer: GunGuy
This weapon fires well without commonly associated malfunctions of the earlier generation. It came with the CHEAPLY made metal (alloy) magazines (3rd gen). Had I known how cheaply built this gun is, I would NOT have bought it. The receiver is made of aluminum (inferior), the entire trigger mechanism housing is made of PLASTIC, and the magazine well is also PLASTIC. The stock is hollow plastic. The MIM charging handle pulls free of the bolt very easily, and also rubs on the aluminum receiver, which is bound to wear a groove in the cheap aluminum receiver. You can install a sling stud in the forearm, but must have a machine threaded stud for the rear due to Remington cheaping out on construction. All that aside, the weapon fires reliably and accurately. However, with the construction being so poor, I have little faith that this weapon will survive a generation of heavy use. Remington does not supply much of this info on their site, so they preclude you from the facts. I will NEVER buy another gun from Remington. If I want a plastic gun, I'll buy an airsoft gun. Hell, I have a pellet gun built tougher than this .22 LR. I gave the gun 1 bullet for working. Do not buy this gun if you value craftsmanship and high quality machining. Buy this gun if you want an accurate .22 plinker with issues. My Marlin 60 is light years ahead of this POS in terms of quality, and it cost me *gasp* 50 bucks. I guess you have to spend upwards of 500 to get a decent .22 these days, even the 10/22 is being cheaply made. The only thing on this gun that is steel is the barrel, bolt, and the trigger. I had NEVER seen a rifle made by a major manufacturer built to the quality control standards of a retarded, dyslexic, Chinese hobbit, but now I have. Thanks, Remington. You are a gold standard for American Engineering! PS. CTD listed this gun as a soft touch stock incorrectly. It is solid plastic.
