4.0 Rating Good for the price - 3/16/2014
Reviewer: Brother Scott
I found both pros and cons in this pistol. First off - it is NOT made in Turkey, but rather in Bulgaria. Although I have great things to say about the one example I have of a new generation Turkish firearm - I don't know a heck of a lot about Bulgarian. Time will tell I guess. I am given to understand the Arcus 98DA is now the recently acquired standard issue sidearm of both the Iraqi military and police. That's not a guarantee - it was stated in an article I read. This is a full size handgun so the length of the barrel is not ideal for concealed carry - but it is also slim enough you could get away with it. I wouldn't want to carry it all day long though. I had only one FTF in the 30 rounds I put through it - and it is my experience that many pistols have a bit of a glitchy break in - so I'm not really concerned. I don't think it's chronic. Although I didn't secure it to a bench to get truly accurate groupings, my results at 50 feet were very acceptable. It'll hit what you hope to. It's a natural aimer for my hand which is a bit on the large side. Do not expect to be impressed with the magazines They are a couple of thin steel boxes with springs in them. The followers are not anti-tilt which will become apparent the first time you load one. Instead of a series of holes in the back of the mag to indicate round count it only has one showing fully loaded. Most of us can deal with counting to 15 well enough, but I noticed so I mentioned it. Sliding the mag home isn't smooth as silk either. In fact I think they test fired both new mags - because the finish along both of them are scratched and you can feel them grate while sliding in or out. Metal and poly body with a hardy enough plastic / rubber grip - and significant enough "checkering" - or whatever you want to call molded bumps to prevent it moving around in a sweaty palm. This is a double action pistol which is certainly worth mentioning. There are a couple of less than uniform spots of finish - and an annoying edge that falls right against my knuckle when indexing it. It has a manual safety and de-cocking is achieved by holding the hammer and slowly lowering it with the trigger pulled such as on a 1911. Cardboard box, 2 mags and a cleaning rod. Bout it. The price certainly justifies the purchase I'd say... and I'm not sorry to have picked it up. I gave it 4 bullets - but I think 3 and a half would be more accurate. Still, it's a good deal.
