Crafted with a highly durable glass filled nylon handle that is molded around the axe head, the Gerber Camp Axe can withstand extensive use and tough conditions. The axe head is engineered with durable forged steel, which means it will keep its sharp edge over time.

I received the Camp Axe the other day. The tool is housed in a nice, security holder/handle case that protects both the axe and the user when not in use. The axe arrived with a relatively sharp edge that took very little effort to fine tune by hand to a "knife-edge" sharpness. Weight is not overly heavy, but has enough heft to be effective with either one or two-handed operation. Shaft is longer than other tools being promoted and gives the user more striking force and more effective use with two hands. The handle wraps around the axe head. It's solid and designed so the axe head won't accidentally come free from the handle when in use. Only drawback is that the handle is made of a smooth, nylon material that doesn't provide a solid grasp. My hand tended to slip down the shaft when swinging the tool. Problem was solved by wrapping sticky tape around the shaft. Only other concern has to do with steel hardness. I haven't had a real opportunity to use the axe so I don't know how well it will hold an edge. All-in-all, for the price, this is a fine axe.
