5.0 Rating My Second PF-9 - 8/20/2012
Reviewer: Steve in KC
What can I say, its my second PF-9 as I have been carrying the one I already had for 3+ years and this one was $50 less than the one I bought from my local gun store back then, and this one is Parkerized! I am very pleased with Keltec and the PF9. Complaints about this firearm are overly exaggerated with about 90% being due to user error. They have great customer service, a lifetime warranty and a supportive user community forum if you do have a real issue or just a question. Its a small gun, shooting a big round for its very light weight/mass, so you are going to feel recoil and dont have much hand area to absorb it or much gun to hold onto. Because of that, most novice users will limp wrist it leading to FTE jams. If you use proper form, it functions fine. If you one hand it, well....good luck getting more than one or two rounds before having to clear it, but that all important first round will fire even if your other arm has been disabled. There is a trade off between size and ease of use. The PF9 is much easier to conceal and carry (permitted of course) than my other handguns that are more fun to shoot at the range. Although, if what you choose isn't light and thin enough, you won't carry it as much and being unarmed is, well, being unarmed vs armed. You have different hammers for different uses and I have four different 9mm weapons. I carry a PF9 and throw a couple mags (Fed Classic 115gr JHP's) downrange on each trip to ensure reliability and maintain my confidence in it, but most of my range shooting is done with a SCCY CPX2, Ruger P95 or Hi Point 995TS carbine with in order are more fun to send 9mm rounds downrange! If you choose the PF9, an upside down Hogue Jr Universal grip or Limbsaver (for the G26, Large SubCompact) will help buffer that recoil. In just the last couple of months, I also found that adding KT's +1 mag extensions to the OEM mags really gave me just enough more to hold onto, improving accuracy and lessening felt recoil, not to mention another round! I used WWB and Fed 115gr FMJ's for a 200 round break in period where I had less than five FTE jams and learned to improve my form then switched to the Fed JHP's with no issues at all on either.
