5.0 Rating Awesome shotgun; always gets comments at the range - 3/23/2013
Reviewer: Steve
Great shotgun! Love the heavy breacher-barrel with muzzle brake and the upgraded fiber-optic post site. The Thunder Ranch logo on the side gives it a great look over the factory matte black. The forend is great for mounting accessories. You will however have to learn the proper hand position in order to keep from ramming your thumb or fingers into the side picatinny rails when firing the gun. You must keep your thumb below the rail; you'll get it after a few shots to the thumb... :) Contrary to the description of the Mako forend on this site (this is the one that comes with the shotgun) THE SIDE PICATINNY RAILS ARE NOT REMOVABLE!!!! I attempted to remove them and am now (ultimately) having to replace the forend. The rails are held to the forend by hex screws which are backed by nuts on the inside of the forend. The cavity in which the nuts sit is large. If you remove the screws, the nuts will fall into the cavity and you will have to fish them out...good luck with that it took me hours. Ultimately, I drilled a hole in the back of the forend to get the nuts out. Even then, however, the seat in which the nuts sit is too shallow to properly hold them. Therefore, you will likely not be able to tighten them properly. I ended-up super-gluing one of my picatinny rails on. That held fine until I allowed an inexperienced person to shoot my shotgun at the range; 2nd shot and his hand hit the rail on which my taclight was mounted and promptly ripped it off. Now, I'm replacing the forend. I will likely buy an exact replacement but WILL NOT attempt to remove the rails this time...BEWARE!!!!
