Commonly considered to be one of gunfighter "Wild Bill" Hickok's favorite handguns, the 1851 helped to begin both the expansion of the West and the Civil War. The revolver was unique in that it had the ability to fire several rounds per minute before having to reload. Union Army soldiers relied on many different types of sidearms for short range and close quarters combat. Revolvers were typically issued to Army officers and mounted soldiers, however some were purchased privately or found on the battlefield by infantrymen.

Great looking gun. Excellent fit and finish. Case hardening (chemical process) looked good. Inspected internals - excellent job on all operating parts. No metal flashing. Very clean, smooth internal frame. Found the following: - 2 lb. trigger pull out of box. - barrel assy to frame fit excellent. - 0.005" cylinder gap to barrel with cylinder fully retracted. - cylinder bore to barrel alignment was good. - cylinder stop bolt needed fitting to cylinder stop slot (normal for Pietta revolvers). - polishing of internal parts optional. Bottom line: Traditions (Pietta mfg.) is doing a great job on their products.

This 1851 Navy pistol is superb in fit and function. I could not believe the price. If you enjoy BP, this can't be beat.
