Don't sleep on these rounds. If cost is an issue, these will certainly do the trick in a self/home defense situation. Are there better defense rounds out there? Of course. But let's take a second to examine cost... At the time of this writing, these are half the price of the Hornady Critical Defense. Is the Hornady a better bullet? Certainly, but it's more than twice as much. The high end Buffalo Bore is even more expensive. I would shoot myself into the poor house pretty quickly running that load. As far as ballistics? Here's some data: Aquila JHP: 282 Lbs. at the muzzle; Hornady JHP Critical Defense: 410 Ft. Lb.; Buffalo Bore JHP +P: 591 ft. Lb. So, yes, in terms of velocity, you do get what you pay for. But (and here's a big 'But'), these are cheap enough to practice with. My Taurus PT145 Pro is finicky as all get out, but she'll run these rounds with no problem, and they shoot flatter and more accurately than bulk Federal FMJ. Groups are tight; within 1" at 30 yards, and that's with a 3.25" barrel. As to stopping power, I wouldn't have much faith in long range duty, but inside your home, or on the street, roughly 300 lbs. expanding in your chest will do most folks in. Plus, you get the added bonus of knowing how they'll shoot at a price point you can easily get intimate with. Will definitely be buying more. -1 bullet, simply because an extra pinch of powder couldn't hurt :) Shoot often, shoot safely.
