Federal has the right ammo for home defense, such as these Personal Defense rounds. This example, in 12 gauge, has a 2-3/4" shell loaded with 9 pellets which it fires at 1145 fps. It also uses the innovative FLITECONTROL wad.

The Federal PD132-00 is the exact same as the LE132-00. A 2 3/4" low recoil 9 pellet 00. This round does an excellent job of putting every pellet right where you want it. The groupings are excellent and consistent. And as a bonus the recoil won't rattle your fillings. In my opinion this is one of the single best defensive shotgun loads produced. Federal hit a home run with their flight control wad technology.
