No other semi-automatic rifle has captured the imagination of the shooting public like the SG 550 series rifle. For years this legendary Swiss made rifle has been restricted to law enforcement and military sales where it has continuously built on its reputation for outstanding performance, accuracy and durability. SIG SAUER offers the U.S. produced version as the SIG556, which is available to the general consumer and law enforcement markets. The SIG556 features the same high-performance two position adjustable gas piston operating rod system engineered by SIG's sister company Swiss Arms and marries it to a trigger housing that not only cuts the rifle's weight by a pound but is designed to accept standard AR magazines.

The SIG556 Classic carries a tactical heritage that has served special operations groups, law enforcement agencies, and counter terrorism units throughout the world. When assignments depend on exceptional performance and reliability, tactical operators depend on SIG SAUER rifles. The Classic name is based on the rifles Swiss heritage and the classic features that it draws from those world famous Swiss rifles. The adjustable stock snaps and securely locks into a folded position with a length-of-pull that can be preset by the user. The clean tapered forend styling allows for a firmer grip and better control. The redesigned trigger housing improves access to functional controls while improving the overall ergonomics of the rifle.

4.0 Rating Great Gun - 1/28/2011
Reviewer: John R
Just purchased this gun, came in quick. As the previous reviewer stated, it comes in a plastic case with padding on the inside. The case isn't too bad at all, but I wouldn't recommend it if you plan on carrying it around with you a lot. As far as the mag, it does not come with the 2 sig mags that you would normally get. The trade off is, of course, you're getting the gun for $400 cheaper than anywhere else, in addition, I've used the sig mags before, they're not that great, and you're better off not using them and going with a higher quality mag. The gun is pretty stiff when you first get it. The butt-stock would not expand very easily, and when you fold it, it would not lock in very easily. This is to be expected of new guns though. I've put some rounds through it and, all in all, it is a great gun, Highly recommended.

5.0 Rating Great Deal - 12/7/2011
Reviewer: Marinedudejoe
This is a GREAT weapon. The Swiss know what they are doing. Once you get the hang of cleaning this baby everything is good to go..its a little different than the standard AR so watch how the bolt comes out so you can get it back in..I shot this rifle with said white packing grease as is and shot perfect. Once I got the iron sigts adjusted in about 20 rounds it was right on. I don't care for a lot of optics and such. The swing out arm no problem. I have 4 different Ar-15 M-4s and this is really one of the best. Another is the Daniels Defence. You can't get either weapon cheaper unless you have an FFL..this is a master piece..

5.0 Rating Great Customer Service - 5/29/2012
Reviewer: GD
Bought this rifle through CTD last July. Sale was very fast and satisfactory, but the gun had accuracy issues with the gas block and rail. Called Sig, got a free mailing label e-mailed, sent gun in for work, and received a fixed gun in less than two weeks (about 8 "working days," plus a weekend). The gun functions as flawlessly as the shooter using it is capable of now. Ergonomically, this gun is a breeze to work on, clean, and fire. I'm very satisfied with the purchase from CTD, and extremely satisfied with Sig Sauer's customer service.
