I previously reviewed this product and raised the issue of it not allowing the addition of aftermarket heat-shields. Well, now mine does at least. Be warned however. This is NOT a task for those unfamiliar with polymer work. I'm a gunsmith/armorer, including Remington 870/1100 factory certification. If you just bought a rotary tool or haven't used one extensively, do yourself a favor and find a competent gunsmith nearby that works with polymers. Magpul uses a hard polymer, similar in feel to a fiberglass. It's rugged and holds its looks and color VERY well. But it does not suffer fools. Once a polymer is screwed up, you've just wasted your money. Mine, however, turned out great and is fitted to my heat-shield and looks like it was meant to be there. The only thing that would be more awesome is if Magpul would just cast them with enough clearance OR make their own heat-shield. This would be a 5 bullet if I didn't have to work on it.

I have to admit up front, I am a HUGE fan of Magpul products. I have their MOE equipment on a number of personal firearms for both recreation and for duty use (law enforcement). I'm an armorer and weapons instructor. Magpul MOE allows me to add enhanced handling characteristics and utility without adding (and in some cases, reducing) weight. Obviously I was interested when I heard they were making parts for shotguns and ordered this forearm for my 870. It is nearly perfect. It has a nice feel and decent grip. The ability to add MOE add-ons (some of which I already have) is a nice plus. It is lighter weight than the factory foregrip and most competitors' products. It also looks REALLY nice. However, it isn't compatible with after market heat shields. And, since Remington is starting to add heat-shields to some of their options packages, this presents a problem. If you are into Magpul, you are probably into other "Tacti-Cool" accessories. I happen to think that a heat-shield is a practical add-on, considering how blazing hot the barrel can get, coupled with people's tendency to hold and carry their shotgun by grasping at a point just ahead of the receiver. So, I consider this a minus that the designers at Magpul missed. So, until I can shave about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch off of the top lips on both sides, I can't mount this thing along with my heat-shield. After that, I'll consider this product perfect.
