Gator Brush Thinner -
The dramatically shaped carbon steel blade is set in a sturdy, newly redesigned, easier to grip handle with gator over mold. It's perfect for clearing out brush and limbs from tree stands and stream settings. A non stick coating on the blade reduces friction. The contoured sheath contains a polyethylene board to protect the user and the blade, a five coil zipper and Velcro retention strap.

I've used the earlier version (without the rubberized handle) for a few years. It has stayed dangerously sharp with little maintenance, and I used it for everything from batoning firewood to clearing blackberry bushes. Not a hint of rust or discoloration. I'm interested to try the new handle style. Hopefully the blade is still Fiskars out of Finland... Gerber's Chinese/Taiwan made products are not the same. Def one of my top three favorites, alongside my BR Golok and Woodman's pal.

I bought one of these a year ago. I've taken it canoeing in the BWCA, hunting, on a snowmobile trip, and it's seen other use, as well. I've chopped green logs up to 6" thick with this but it's really not the best tool for that job- leave that to your bow saw. It shines at cutting smaller branches and kindling, up to 3" thick on the first strike. The hook design effectively grabs brush and debris for clearing campsites and trails. You can store matches and firestarters in the hollow handle, if you make a plug for the end. I've split branches up to 4" thick by driving the blade through with a large branch. Shows no signs of breaking after 1+ years of occasionally hard use.
