If you are looking for ammo to use for deer hunting then this is not it. There are several problems with this product and I’m going to address each one. First: it doesn’t seem like any of the ammo manufacturers advertise their ammo as being ballistic tip. Some do but not enough. They all use different terms to describe the same thing, a hollow point bullet with a plastic tip. Some call them plastic tips, some call them polymer points, and I figured Winchester calling these protected hollow points amounted to the same thing. I was wrong; these are just regular old hollow point bullets. I’ll have to try again to get what I want. Second problem: the trajectory of these rounds are nuts. I sighted in my rifle at 200 yards and was making 3 inch groups at that distance with FMJ rounds. Just switching to these caused me to barely keep it on paper at the same distance. I have used hollow points in this gun before and I’ve never had my shots thrown off this bad. I then used the last 3 rounds I had left to use in some poor man's ballistics gel (lots of wet phone books) to see how they expanded. Maybe that would be their saving grace. But it wasn’t. One went completely through 8 phone books and i never found it. The other 2 penetrated 6 and they didn’t expand, they exploded. The mess in the last few books looked like I had hit them with some number four out of a 410 at close range. That is the only impressive thing about these rounds. But the poor trajectory and confusing name are more than enough to rate 2 bullets. I would give less but they did all go bang at least.
