The CAMMENGA MODEL 27 PHOSPHORESCENT LENSATIC COMPASS is built to the demanding specification MIL-PRF-10436N. Battle tested through rigorous shock, water, sand proof, and functional from -50 F to +150 F. The phosphorescent lensatic compass has been used as an economical alternative to the tritium model for decades. It is the same compass CAMMENGA has been supplying to the US military except that the self-luminous tritium has been replaced with phosphorescent paint.

Equipped with a magnifying lens, sight wire, and dial graduations in both degrees and mils to ensure accurate readings. The Copper Induction Damping System slow the rotation of the magnet without the use of liquids. Built to last with an aluminum frame and waterproof housing. The Cammenga Compass is depended on by fighting forces, government agencies, and adventurous outdoor enthusiasts around the world.

5.0 Rating Impressed! - 1/30/2013Cammenga Model 27 Phosphorescent Lensatic Compass5.0000

Great build quality, fit and finish excellent. Moving parts smooth and precise- this is a piece of quality gear, not a cheap thing made to look pretty in a picture. With the exception of the black plastic bezel and possibly the main window, it is constructed entirely of aluminum. The rotary bezel has subtly audible click stops, 3 degrees/click. It's lighter than expected but hefty enough to feel like a quality instrument. A 5 second charge from an LED flashlight makes it glow intensely and the entire dial and "bowl" is illuminated, every marking and number can be read in the dark. Without dark adapted eyes it's bright enough to read the entire dial for 15-20 mins, much longer if dark adapted. But the glow points themselves stay easily visible for an hour+. This includes a 35 degree back-lit area that would be at your heading. Knowing the lifespan limitations of tritium, I would have chosen this one even if the prices were the same. My compass hunt is over, buy it!
5.0 Rating Best Non-Tritium Compass - 10/25/2012Cammenga Model 27 Phosphorescent Lensatic Compass5.0000

Best of the non-tritium compasses, we do not have to worry about the 10-year expiration, and all for $35 less. As I am sure LINY has been told by now, his compass is NOT 35 years old, it was manufactured as part of Lot 77 in March, 2012. Mine is a fresh 12 10 77.
4.0 Rating exactly as advertised - 4/14/2012Cammenga Model 27 Phosphorescent Lensatic Compass4.0000

Needed a 'real' compass, this fit the bill; wanted the more expensive tritium model, but since I won't be doing any night ops [intend to be sleeping at night], this one will do just fine. I received a brand new lensatic compass, with nylon lanyard, nylon pouch, and instruction sheet. This unit is well-built, with very fine gradations, magnet locks down when unit is closed. Dropped one bullet due to 12-03-77 manuf. date, can a 35-year-old compass really be called "brand new?" Anyhow, thanks CTD for the usual fast shipping!
