4.0 Rating Love & Hate - 1/26/2011
Reviewer: Shooter McGavin
I love this little pistol and I hate it. Pros: Looks and feels like a larger caliber compact pistol. Awesome feel to it and great construction. Great balance and weight. Trigger pull is a little long, but it conditions your fingers better. It has a flip lever safety ambidextrous on either side of the slide. Easy to dissemble and clean. Pictanny rail for laser or light. Cons: Out of the box it is the most picky little shooter ever. New I tried every possible .22lr round I could find; Federal(Super cheap hi-velocity),Hyper-velocity, Federal Match(White box, black lettering), CCI(Mini mags, maxi, standard, pistol match), Remington(Gold), Remington Target and they all jammed or did not feed right. The CCI did ok, but still about 1 every 10 rounds. The Federal Match seemed to only have a issue 1 out of every two magazines, or slightly less. I tried both springs that came with it, the light spring seemed to work better than the heavy even though they say use the heavy for hi-vel. I tried leaving the pistol stored for a week with the heavy spring and the slide locked back, no luck there. I also put about 500 rounds of the cheap stuff through it before I went back to CCI and the Federal Match, still jamming issues, a little better but the Federal still jammed about 1 out of every 2.5 magazines. I cleaned it every 4 magazines as well. Finally I broke down and sanded and polished the feed ramp after trying everything, and anything anyone suggested; as well as Sig's website suggestions for troubleshooting the Mosquito. Now I can feed it the cheapest stuff with no issues feeding at all, but now...it jams every couple mags ejecting one(quick charge of the slide fixes it). I still clean it after every time I shoot. I really wish this was a reliable pistol, I tried everything and really, really ironed it out putting hundreds if not thousands of rounds through it hoping it would work itself. I wish I could be head over heels for this pistol. I love all there rifles cause they are awesome, the .22 rifles I have never ever jam once, even if you do not clean them. To be fair 22 ammo is cheaply made, and I have also heard any of the other standard sized 22lr pistols all have issues jamming like the Walther.(No personal experience). I still really like this pistol, but I have seen others at this point just get rid of it. In conclusion I will keep it and use it for tactical shooting drills(A jam or two should keep me on my toes), but I would not expect this pistol to work in a crunch. (not that you would ever use a 22lr for defense as primary)
