Random Leek Knife -
The Leek series includes some of Kershaw's most popular knives. Kershaw's Leeks offer Ken Onion's distinctive design as well as the SpeedSafe ambidextrous assisted opening system. With SpeedSafe, the user can smoothly and easily deploy the blade with one hand, either left or right. Leeks come in a variety of handle styles, some with technologically advanced coatings for enhanced performance. For example, the bead blasted stainless steel handle offers strength and beauty. A handle with black Tungsten DLC coating produces a Leek with a non reflective surface. For lightweight and a one of a kind look, choose our "smoked" double anodized aluminum finish in two colors. For ease of carrying, all Leeks include a reversible and removable pocket clip. New in 2007 is Kershaw's Random Leek with a modified Tanto blade for cutting power and chromium nitride coating for hardness and corrosion resistance.
Serrated Blade -
A serrated blade has a cutting edge that has many small points of contact with the material being cut. By having less contact area than a smooth blade, the applied force at each point of contact is relatively greater and the points of contact are at a sharper angle to the material being cut.
Tanto Blade -
This knife blade was inspired by the shape of the Japanese sword blades. The point to this style blade is in line with the spine of the blade. The tanto has a reinforced point which is thick and strong and is good for heavy duty stabbing cuts.
Frame Lock -
Also known as the Integral Lock or Monolock. The Frame Lock is a locking mechanism invented by custom knife maker Chris Reeve for the Sebenzas an update to the liner lock. The Frame Lock works in a manner similar to the liner lock but uses a partial cutout of the actual knife handle, rather than a separate liner inside the handle to hold the blade in place.
Ambidextrous -
Described as able to use both the right and left hands with equal dexterity. Person is both, right and left handed.
Reversible Pocket Clip -
The knife handles on some models are drilled for both left and right hand clip carry allowing the clip to be mounted on either side of the handle.
Removable Pocket Clip -
This feature allows for tip up or tip down carry, or the clip can be removed completely.
Bead Blast Finish -
can be defined as any non reflective finish applied to the metal surface by bead blasting or sand blasting the blade with any of a variety of media. The intent is to roughen the surface for anti glare. The trade off is it tends to be more susceptible to corrosion due to the increased surface area exposed. This finish is also commonly referred to as a "military finish".
What is SpeedSafe?
SpeedSafe is a patented system that assists the user to smoothly open any SpeedSafe knife with a manual push on the blade's thumb stud or pull back on the blade protrusion. SpeedSafe is built into many of Kershaw's best-selling knives.
How does SpeedSafe work?
The heart of SpeedSafe is its torsion bar. Closed, the torsion bar helps keep the knife closed, preventing it from being opened by "gravity." In order to open the knife, the user must apply manual pressure to the thumb stud or blade protrusion to overcome the resistance of the torsion bar. After the blade is out of the handle, the torsion bar moves along its half-moon track and takes over. The blade opens smoothly and locks into position, ready for use.
How safe is SpeedSafe?
Very, SpeedSafe opens ONLY when the user manually deploys it using either the thumb stud or blade protrusion. Once deployed, a locking system secures the blade in position so that it cannot close accidentally. When releasing the lock, the blade does not snap shut due to resistance provided by the torsion bar. This bar also provides a bias towards the closed position, which holds the blade securely closed. New SpeedSafe® users can ensure safe use of the technology by practicing to proficiency.

I own a couple of Kershaw knives, but I have always liked a Tanto blade, especially one that is partially serrated. Now that Kershaw finally makes one, I had to get one. The assisted opening is also very quick and smooth. I think the Scallion will be my next knife from Kershaw. Thanks CTD!
