3.0 Rating Good for $297 - 10/29/2013
Reviewer: ArK Gunsmith
Remington makes just fine rifles. The problem here is judging remington based on a 300$ rifle. Is it even close to my 300'weatherby mag? no but your comparing a $1,000 + rifle to a. Starter rifle meant for those starting shooting. After all what seasoned hunter would choose this starter rifle? Judging Remington by this gun is like judging 2013 Toyota by a 1988 supra. It's just completely in scientific. This gun will do you just fine if you clean and maintain it Properly and you'd be surprised how many. 30yr + shooter do not know how to properly maintain a weapon bc they've done it the same way since child hood. If you want a good rifle for your son to start hunting with or if you cannot afford the more quality weapons.....this is JUST fine. Maybe taking a course from a licensed gunsmith on how to properly clean each certain weapon, In this case the Remington 770 7.62X51/.308. Military personnel do a very good job on the weapons they are trained to properly maintain but you can count how many weapons they're trained to properly maintain on 2 hands. Don't judge Remington by a $ 297 starter gun. Rifle/pistol

2.0 Rating sticking bolt - 11/25/2012
Reviewer: tim
The first thing I noticed was the weight of this rifle. You will need a sling if you plan on carrying it all day. After cleaning/oiling, I noticed the bolt sticking in both the closed position and in the fully open position. After inserting the loaded magazine, the problem got worse. The shell extraction is sloppy, the bolt stuck at about an inch when trying to extract, causing scaring on the round underneath. When it did come open, the bolt slid completely out, bypassing the bolt latch. The bolt latch became wedged into the composite furniture, which had to be pried up with a knife. This, apparently, is a common problem with the 770. This rifle is garbage. I only put one box of ammo through it and that was enough. I have very little respect for the Remington brand name after all of this. Very disappointed with a company the knowingly puts out such a pathetic product.
