This stock works great for reduced felt recoil. I use it with a scope with no problems. I had to order the adapter nut to fit the forend on my newer Mossberg 500.

When I realized how much I really hated the pistol grip, buttstock, and forend, which I used to replace the original wood stocks, I decided to try this. It went on easily. In fact, I had more trouble trying to reassemble the "guts" to my '80s model Mossberg Defender, as I had not broken it down in years. I have not tried it out, but I'm looking forward to it, judging by the previous review. The only reason I gave it 4 and not 5 bullets is there's no provision for a rear sling swivel (not an issue at the moment). Despite what the picture above shows, the instructions say a swivel may be installed 1.25" ahead of the small hole on the bottom of the butt and is explicit in saying that the hole already there is strictly for the inner functions of the recoil mechanism. Beside all that, it feels and looks great, and actually fits better than the original wood, keeping in mind that this is a strictly home defense gun and not an expensive skeet or hunting piece. I'm pleased as punch with it, and will write a quick review about function after I've tried it out.

Just took my Mossberg 500 persuader 12ga out to the range with this thing on. Works wonders. No more bruising or soreness from shooting. Recoil feels more like a shove than a punch to the shoulder now.
